My Diary Game: 18/01/2026 - A Sunday Well Spent: Church, Small Delays & Simple Comforts

Good day my steem family 👋 I hope you’re all having a calm and refreshing Sunday.

After the holidays, Sundays now feel a bit different — slower, quieter, and more reflective. Today was one of those days where nothing dramatic happened, yet everything felt meaningful in its own simple way.

I woke up just on time this morning — not early, not late — one of those balanced starts to the day that already sets a good mood. After getting ready, I headed to church with fellow students.

Church was… long 😅. Very long. Don’t get me wrong, the service was impactful, but at some point my body started negotiating with my spirit. I tried to stay focused, but sleep was gently tapping my eyes. I stepped out briefly and told myself I’d just get chewing gum — next thing I knew, I was back with a bottle of water and biscuits. Best unplanned decision of the day.

Despite the length, attending church remains important to me. It helps reset my mind after a busy academic week, reminds me to be grateful, and gives me a sense of direction. Church also offers community — seeing familiar faces, worshipping together, and sharing the same space brings a calm that’s hard to explain.

Just when we thought it was time to leave, another delay came up. The church bus had to wait because some students who are excos or members of different church departments had meetings. Waiting turned into murmuring, murmuring turned into complaints — hunger had entered the chat. I complained too, but quietly 😌. Deep down, I was relieved I had those biscuits and water earlier. Small wins matter.

Eventually, we headed back, tired but settled.

By the time I got to the hostel, food was non-negotiable. On Sundays, I naturally crave what I like to call “spoon meals” — meals you eat calmly with a spoon, not rushed, not stressful. Today’s choice was macaroni.

Back at home, Sundays usually mean rice — and Sunday rice always feels special. Maybe it’s the effort, the timing, or the family vibe attached to it. But here in school, macaroni did the job perfectly. Warm, filling, and comforting.

Looking back, today reminded me that life doesn’t always need big highlights to feel complete. Sometimes it’s just about showing up — to church, to responsibilities, to yourself. Even the delays, hunger, and tiredness came with small lessons in patience and gratitude.

How was your Sunday?
Do you also have meals or routines that feel extra special just because it’s Sunday?
