The Diarygame: 20- 12-2025, Engaging and a rewarding weekend
Yesterday was quite different from my usual routine. While the world was still draped in the quiet darkness of the early morning, I found myself awake before 4:00 AM. There is a certain stillness at that hour that feels like a secret -the air is cooler, and the usual noise of the city is replaced by a heavy, peaceful silence. I didn't want to waste a second of the day. I quickly handled my morning hygiene, brushed, and took a refreshing bath to shake off the last lingering bits of sleep. I sat for a moment, waiting for the sky to turn that familiar shade that signals the start of public transport operations. As soon as I heard the distant hum of engines, I headed out.
Luck was on my side; it didn't take long before the tricycles started appearing on the road. I hopped into one, feeling the cool wind on my face as we zipped through the nearly empty streets toward the local market. My primary mission? Plantains. There is something rewarding about getting to the market before the crowds arrive-you get the pick of the freshest produce before the heat of the sun begins to wear them down.
By around 7:15 AM, I was back at my doorstep, the weight of my market haul in hand. The morning sun was just beginning to peek over the horizon, casting long shadows. Once inside, the real work began. I set to work peeling the plantains and a few tubers of yam I had in the kitchen. I put them on the fire to boil, ensuring they reached that perfect, soft texture. While the pot was bubbling, I turned my attention to the sauce. Earlier at the market, I had carefully selected tomatoes, sharp onions, fresh peppers, and a blend of aromatic spices. As I chopped the vegetables. I sautéed the onions until they were translucent, added the peppers and tomatoes, and let the spices meld together. The result was a rich, flavorful sauce that complemented the natural sweetness of the plantains and the earthiness of the yam perfectly. It wasn't just breakfast; it was a reward for my early start.
In the afternoon, my plan was to get some serious work done on the farm. I headed out with high hopes, but nature had other plans. Upon arrival, I was met with a sight that every farmer knows all too well: the recent rains had caused the grasses and weeds to grow at an incredible rate.
The plot was almost unrecognizable, thick with green overgrowth that seemed to have appeared overnight. I stood there for a moment, assessing the task. I realized that to tackle this properly, I would need more than just a few hours of afternoon energy. I was already feeling the physical toll of my early morning trek to the market. Knowing when to push and when to rest is a vital part of balance. I decided to head back home, choosing to wait for another day when I could arrive at dawn with a clear mind and a sharp cutlass. Being "so exhausted" taught me that even on our most productive days, we must listen to what our bodies are telling us.
As the sun began to set, the air turned crisp and sweet. To clear my head from the frustration of the overgrown farm, I decided to take a slow walk down my street. It was exactly what I needed. Receiving that "fresh air" helped me reset. I watched my neighbors finishing their day, heard the sounds of children playing, and felt a deep sense of gratitude for the simple ability to move and breathe.
Returning home, I followed a relaxing nighttime ritual. I took a long, cool bath to wash away the dust of the day. A few sprays of my favorite body mist, a change into a simple, comfortable nightgown, and I felt like a completely new person.
