Betrayals

Betrayal, in a nutshell, based on my own understanding, can be best described as the process of violating confidence or proving faithlessness or treachery. In other words, it can be defined as the process of violating a person's confidence in you as a result of wrong behavior, either willingly or unwillingly.

Betrayal is the one thing that brings ruin to friendships and even to relationships. I have seen it many times, witnessed it, and also experienced it.

Causes of betrayals

• Selfish interest
• Greed
• Mistake

Selfish interest

---

This is one of the main reasons why most people end up betraying a friend or even family members. Selfishness is the process where all a person can think about is themselves in any given situation. It is as a result of this selfishness that makes most people backbite, gossip, backstab, and disappoint others who gave them their trust.

Greed

Now this also is another reason why most people choose to betray other people's confidence in them. Greed is mostly focused on the lust for or on something.

^{And example can be drawn from our political leaders who will make promises during campaign but when they claim the situation of power they will refuse to fulfill their promises}

Mistake

---

I know people are always very offended when they are betrayed, but coupled with this last cause of betrayal, I have learned that not all of them are purposefully done. Some are done out of mistakes; maybe they didn't know that such actions might hurt their friends or anyone.

As a result of this, I would urge my readers that if a person offends you through betrayal, before you react, please always try to find out the reason for such actions, especially if it is from a person you trust. It might be a mistake, or maybe such a person didn't mean to hurt your feelings.

I have seen brothers betraying brothers, and I have even seen parents betraying their children, not to mention friends betraying friends. Despite all that, I see no condemnation in their actions, as they still deserve a second chance of trust. Just because they disappointed your trust doesn't mean that you can never trust them again, so we should learn to forgive and forget.
