SLC-S29/W4-“Thinking and Ideas!| Rethinking the Normal!”

I am @saifuddinmahmud from Bangladesh. There is a beautiful and amazing challenge. The challenge name is SLC-S29/W4-“Thinking and Ideas!| Rethinking the Normal!” organised by
@ninapenda. I hope everyone like my post.
Name one practice, belief, or system that people accept as normal but should be questioned.
There are many beliefs and practices in our society that we have seen since childhood, so we take them for granted. In the education system, the marks obtained in exams are considered the main criterion of intelligence, competence and success. The evaluation of a student depends almost entirely on the marks and grades he or she obtains. But if we think deeply, we see that this number-centric idea fails to fully reflect the real capabilities and personality of the students. The prevailing idea in society is that the student who gets more marks is the most intelligent and will be successful in the future. As a result, this belief makes the main purpose of education to achieve good results while knowledge acquisition is neglected. Many students prioritize reading and memorizing more for good marks in exams, which makes them lag behind in solving many problems in real life. Yet, exam marks are considered the only proof of their competence. Since this conflicts with the real purpose of education, I think this practice should be questioned.
Why do you think people rarely challenge it?
Many people rarely challenge this idea of exam scores. There are many reasons for this. First, our education and employment structure is completely based on scores. From school, college, university admissions to government and private job exams, test results play an important role in everything. As a result, if you want to take a stand against this system, there is a fear that the future will become uncertain. Second, as people grow up in the same system from generation to generation, they consider it natural and unchangeable. Third, students who get good scores are respected and praised in society. As a result, this idea is further strengthened. Fourth, people do not dare to challenge this system due to the lack of an effective system to evaluate skills and abilities as an alternative to scores.
What could improve if this “normal” way changed?
If the number-centric idea of exams can be changed, then multifaceted development is possible in the education system. Students will then give more importance to understanding instead of just memorizing. Their thinking power, creativity and problem-solving skills will increase through project-based learning, practical work, lectures and group activities. Many students suffer from disappointment due to not getting good marks in exams. As a result, they lose their self-confidence. If this number-centric idea is ignored, students will become self-confident. The tendency to measure everyone by the same standard will decrease. Because not everyone's talent is the same, each one is an expert in a different subject. Whoever has the opportunity to reflect according to his/her ability will get the opportunity. Someone asks a student how many marks he/she has got, even if he/she is talented, if for some reason he/she has got less marks, then anyone will evaluate him/her as a bad student. But if we can get out of this practice, a student will be evaluated through his/her behavior, his/her ability, hard work, etc. There are many famous scientists and rich people who have earned their labor, They have succeeded through talent and skill. The famous rich man Bill Gates said, "I was not a first-class student in the class, but the first-class students of the world's famous universities work in my company."
What might be lost if it disappeared completely?
However, if the numerical concept of the exam completely disappears, there is a fear of losing some advantages. Numbers are a simple and quick evaluation method. Many students can be evaluated through them. It helps in making quick decisions in admission or recruitment. In addition, in some students, numbers create a competitive attitude. A specific structure and discipline are maintained through the examination system. So if it is completely lost, some chaos can occur in the education system.
Finally, it is worth saying that completely abolishing the examination number is not a solution, but rather an environment should be created to evaluate skills, creativity, behavior and practical knowledge by acknowledging its limitations.
Thanks to my dear steemian friends Who read my post.

Greetings, I must say that what you have said is definitely true. The school system has made it vital and compulsory to pass exams before being acknowledged as an intelligent student this is actually a good thing but still I don't think that should be the only requirement for success, there should be more to it and now I'm convinced through your post that my intuition was right. Stay safe.
Congratulations, your comment has been upvoted by the Steemcurator08 team. Keep up the valuable comments.
