SAC-Wk122 — Is Cohabiting called Marriage?
Marriage, to me, is not just a relationship between two people, it is a responsibility, respect, security and a promise made before Allah. But nowadays, many people find marriage complicated and expensive. Many people think of living together first or having children and then getting married later. As a woman, I know how difficult the results of this thinking can be. Uncertainty, pain and sometimes social humiliation make people's lives unstable.
If someone lives with a woman and bears children without paying her bride price, do we say they are couples or married? |
|---|
In my opinion, people who live together or have children cannot be called married. It is important to have social and religious status in the relationship. In our society, especially in the Islamic view, no relationship is valid without the consent of the couple, witnesses, family and the testimony of Allah. These rules ensure the respect, security and rights of women and children. I personally think about the safety of women in such relationships. Many times, women do not know how uncertain the future of the relationship they are in is. Even if there are children, this relationship does not become halal. In the eyes of Islam, it is included in zina and is a serious sin. I am afraid to understand this as a woman. So we can only call people who are living together a couple but not married.
What's your view on cohabiting? Is it a short cut to getting married? |
|---|
I think, cohabiting can never be a shortcut to marriage. It is just a misconception that it will be easy to understand the relationship. In reality, it is a path of responsibility.
Marriage teaches people how to be responsible. You have to respect your family and keep all your promises to Allah. Marriage in Islam is Sunnah and worship. Marriage is mandatory before intercourse. To keep the character of a person pure and the society. Cohabiting is completely against this principle. I feel that in this path, people gradually move towards sin, and the depth of the relationship is lost. The place of a woman and the safety of the child are the most affected.
Are there advantages or disadvantages of cohabiting? |
|---|
Some people say that the advantage of cohabiting is that you can understand each other better. You can see it once and understand the future. But I see these advantages as very temporary in the eyes of women. The long-term disadvantages are more serious if the relationship breaks down. The woman's honor is violated and the safety of the children is endangered. In the eyes of Islam, this is the sin of adultery. Such a relationship creates distrust and heartache in people. As a woman, I think that no woman or child should be in such an uncertain situation.
Is it good to sexually test the person you want to marry before considering to marry them? What's your viewpoint? |
|---|
This idea personally saddens me. Testing someone sexually takes the relationship to the level of bestiality. Before our Islamic marriage, any kind of physical relationship should be forbidden. Marriage is a bond of faith, patience, love and respect. Relationships are valid and blessed within marriage. From my experience, I can say that when a relationship is built on love and affection, people find peace and security. The thought of having sex before marriage increases the adultery of society and degrades the dignity of women.
Last words |
|---|
In my eyes, cohabitation is never equal to marriage. Society can give modernity, but if the limits of morality and Islam are violated, the results are not good. If a woman and her child are married according to the right rules, the relationship is strong, I want every relationship in society to be sacred, respectful and secure. May Allah grant us all the strength to build a life on a halal path.

I like what you said about marriage. Marriage, to me, is not just a relationship between two people, it is a responsibility, respect, security and a promise made before Allah. But now people see it in another perspective. Some are even scared of getting married. It is something that should be enjoyed not making people run away from.
I wish you the best in this contest
