In today's episode of @ruthjoe ma’am, the esteemed host has brought us the opportunity to discuss the movie Old is Gold. When I think of the movie Old is Gold, the first movie that comes to my mind is the movie, Devdas.
The movie Devdas was released in 1955. The movie Devdas was made based on the novel Devdas by the famous novelist Sarat Chandra Chatterjee. Now I will briefly review the movie, Devdas.
Story of the Movie: -
Devdas is the main character of the movie and the son of a Bengali landlord family. On the other hand, Parvati is the main heroine, and she is the daughter of a lower-middle-class family, known to everyone as Paro, a child of a lower-class family. These two families have been living in a village since ancient times, and Devdas and Paro were close childhood friends.

Main Actor Dilip kumar ad Devdas
Devdas went to a school in Kolkata for higher studies and returned to the village after finishing his studies a few years later. Devdas (Dilip Kumar) and Paro (Suchitra Sen)'s childhood friendship turns into love. Gradually, their love deepens. But Devdas's family refuses to let this love relationship become a reality.
Meanwhile, Paro's family arranges Paro's marriage to another man. She gets married to a middle-aged man, who has a child with Paro's groom and is older than Paro. Devdas starts behaving like a madman. He runs away to Kolkata.
After coming to Kolkata, he meets his old friend Chunni Babu (Motilal). He was always busy with alcohol and women. Now he takes Devdas to Chandramukhi (Vijayantimala). Chandramukhi is a Tawaif. Her job is to entertain different people.

Devdas goes there and drinks a lot, but Chandramukhi falls in love with Devdas and starts serving him. Devdas' health deteriorates due to a combination of excessive drinking and depression - a pull towards suicide. He often mentally compares Paro and Chandramukhi, and is confused about who he loves.
Irregular behavior, excessive drinking, and the pain of not being able to forget Paro make him more and more alcoholic.
Old is gold movie Devdas
Slowly, he starts moving towards death. At one point, he realizes that his death is imminent. He wants to see Paro for the last time and sets off towards Paro's in-laws' house but does not see her for the last time. On the way, he dies after reaching the door of Paro's house. Paro wants to go out to see Devdas after hearing this news, but due to social reasons, Paro's in-laws' house does not allow him to meet Devdas.
And here ends the tragic story of Berth's love.
What felt different about the storytelling of the movie compared to newer films? |

What did you find different about the way the movie was told compared to new movies?
The movie Devdas was based on a historical novel. The movie is a literary film. The biggest feature of the movie is that famous actors and actresses have acted here. They have acted with their utmost ability, so nowhere in the movie did it feel like they were acting. The movie is as if we are observing real life,
The director has given importance to the story of the movie. In the movie, he has shown how a lover can move towards destruction after losing his love.
Did the film age well, or did some parts feel outdated? |

The film Devdas has not aged at all, even after being very old. The film of 70 years ago is still burning among people. As long as people exist, there will be love, and there will be failures of love, too. Just as true love exists in life, one can also sacrifice one's life for love.
The film Devdas has revealed such an incident. No lover can ever forget Devdas. They watch the film Devdas at least once and shed two tears for Devdas. For them, this is not a film; this is an event of their future.
From this incident, they learn how they should get involved and what they should do in the future. Therefore, nothing in the film Devdas has become old. Rather, it continues to burn for every person every moment.
This is evident from the fact that in 2005, IndiaTimes Movies listed the film among the top 25 must-see Bollywood films.
Devdas also ranked 2nd in the University of Iowa's list of top 10 Bollywood films.
So I would say that Devdas has never aged, but has become more popular day by day.

Yes, I think Devdas is a classic. Devdas has all the qualities that make a classic film. The film is a literary film, so there is nothing exaggerated in the film; Sattika's literature is present here. Nothing exaggerated is shown here. The story of the film progresses from the beginning to the end with a great presentation. Therefore, I can call the film a classic.
How did the characters or themes relate to today’s world? |

The film Devdas is based on the story of eternal love. As long as there are people, there will be love. That love can be successful, or it can be a failure. This phenomenon will continue. Therefore, the characters or themes of Devdas are related to all the loves in the world till now. As well as the relationships with people in the near future.
