Mughal-E-Azam(1960) is an iconic movie in Bollywood film industry. It is a classic movie and when released my parents were not even born. This movie is from my grandparent's era. The language of this movie is Hindi and Urdu and this movie belongs to India which is my neighbor country.

Honestly, I heard the story of this movie before watching it and I find it really very slow going for next scenes and it feels boring to me. Maybe because our generation like to watch something fast and fabulous. The movie is based on a love story that remain incomplete. It doesn't had a happy ending like most of the movies. What felt different about the storytelling of the movie compared to newer films?

The story was different and unique because these days this kind of movie not found. The movie created a history and made those actors legendary. All actors were talented though very few are still alive from that time. This movie belongs to my grandparent's era and they loved it very much as the movie was from 60's.

Almost everything of the movie was different if I compare it to newer films. The full set or shooting spot, dressing style, decoration, dialogue delivery, song, dance and the whole drama was absolutely classic and iconic. Old is truly gold and this movie can be a perfect example of that.

Did the film age well, or did some parts feel outdated?

Yes, the movie is quite old. But old is gold, this movie is an example of that. The female lead was played by actor Madhubala who was a ballerina in this movie and her name was "Anarkali". Ballerinas now best know as dancer and they probably dance is a bar or club not for emperors or an empire anymore. The Mughal emperor is a concept of 16th century so this movie theme was already a very old century though it created on 19th century.

The prince fall in love with a ballerina and the love was not approved by the father of prince and this concept was outdated as people now having broad mind to accept such relationship though still social maintenance matter to many and they care about what others think and react on such mismatched relationship. The drama was tragic though both were alive but apart from each other. Not every love story have a happy ending and this movie was an example of that.

What do you think made this movie a “classic”?

The full movie concept made this movie a classic. From story to costumes of each actors shows classic style of 16th century. The epic battle scenes of this movie, palace of mirrors (Shish Mahal), decade long making as it took 16 years to make the movie, classical maestro sang songs in classic style, iconic or legendary songs of this movie and a lot of things that made this movie a complete package of classic movie.

How did the characters or themes relate to today’s world?

Unfortunately those characters and themes doesn't relate to today's world but one thing can relate with the story and that is incomplete love story that had a sad ending. Today's world is full of heart break love stories and many lovers sacrifice their love for the society and people around them. This one thing can relate to today's world or else the movie was picturized on 16th century's theme and represent classic style the most.
