Contest Alert: Simple First Aid Techniques
Contest: " Contest Alert: Simple First Aid Techniques by @eveetim
Hello my friends,
What is first aid, and why is it important?
In simple terms, first aid is the initial treatment given to a person or people injured in an accident or suffering from a sudden illness, to protect their lives until they receive full medical treatment. This includes things like bandaging a wound, trying to stop bleeding, giving CPR to a heart attack victim, or administering life-saving medication. The goal is to provide some relief before they receive complete medical care.
What easy first aid techniques do you know or have you learned? When should you use them?
I remember receiving first aid training in high school. We were taught many things, such as bandaging burns, cuts, and scrapes, stopping bleeding, and applying ointments. I still use these techniques as needed. The easiest first aid methods I know include applying a cold compress to a burn, cut, or high fever. For burns, I know to put the affected area in cold water for 10 minutes or immediately apply mint toothpaste, then apply Burnol or another anti-burn ointment. For cuts or scrapes, I wash the wound with water, clean it with Dettol or an antiseptic, and then apply an anti-inflammatory lotion.
What are the step-by-step procedures for using the first aid techniques mentioned above? Please describe them.
For example, if someone in my house or neighborhood gets burned, the first thing I would do is apply cold water or ice water to the burned area for 10 minutes to reduce the burning sensation. Then, I would clean the burned area with an antiseptic solution, apply Burnol or an anti-burn lotion, and cover it with a clean, sterile white bandage. After that, I would seek treatment from a trained medical professional. All these items are usually found in a first aid kit.
Have you ever used first aid to help yourself or someone else? Share your experience.
Yes, I had to use this procedure on my own son. One year, during the Diwali festival, my son was lighting firecrackers, and his right hand caught fire. I immediately administered first aid to his hand. Later, I took him to the emergency medical hospital. If I had delayed the treatment, he would have developed an infection. Even with the treatment, it took two months for his hand to heal completely.
Why do you think everyone should learn basic first aid skills?
Yes, I think it is essential for every citizen to receive first aid training. Previously, in our country, organizations like the Red Cross Society and some civic organizations such as the Scout Guides and NCC used to conduct such training programs for volunteers. They would provide training and then give each participant a certificate and a first aid kit. The supplies for these kits were provided by the district administration and NGOs. I'm not sure if these programs are still running, but they might be.
I also want to invite here @m-princess who invited me in this contest, @suboohi @solperez @sadaf02
