RE: Fairly Used or Brand New Items? Which would you rather go for?
It really depends on the type of item. Different items depreciate at different rates. Some things start to increase in value as they become antiques.
Apple programs planned obsolescence into the iPhone. This creates a predictable life cycle. New iPhones are expensive. They depreciate quickly. A two year old iPhone trades for a third the price of a new phone. Sadly an eight year old phone no longer works.
Furniture is interesting. Most furniture sold in the store these days is garbage which will probably break within a decade. Used furniture (aka the stuff that survived a decade and didn't break) is probably a higher quality and will last longer than new furniture.
The answer to the question changes depending on the product.
