Spring is Trying!

Even though we still have another month of winter, little signs of spring are starting to show!

The only true winter bloomer we have in our garden is a large patch of "candytufts," which sometimes start to bloom in January when there is snow on the ground. However, this patch fully fills in in late February or early March as the first indication of spring.

We have a little cluster of grape hyacinths by our front door stairs, and they are up and starting to show little bits of color.

Meanwhile we have a big camellia bush, which is also a winter bloomer, and it is starting to get a few pink flowers on it. Those are quite beautiful!

A couple of our rose bushes are already starting to set out shoots. Although it is not actually setting buds to make flowers, these shoots are at least the beginning of new growth.

A few tulips are starting to shoot up, as well. We need to get a cover over those as soon as possible, to keep them from getting eaten by our local bunnies before they set bloom!

So far, it has been a relatively mild winter around here. However, we hope that there isn't a late hard freeze, or snowfall which will destroy the tender buds that are already out.

It has been a while since I have posted, I know, but we have had a busy past 12 months around here with a new grandson keeping us fully occupied!

Till the next, thank you for visiting! All photos are my own, usually taken in nature, from the nearby beach, or around our property.
