DIY From pants to overalls

in GEMS4 years ago

I transformed an old pant into an overalls.

Just as you read, I had this pants that I liked and actually used it when I wanted to feel important but the fact is that I knew that I was not going to wear it anymore and I was going to throw it away.

As it costs me a little to get rid of the clothes, I did not throw it away when I thought to do it and that was good because now it has become something that I will use more often, let's see how I did it.

I started spreading my pants on the floor because I didn't have a big table to work on.

It is important to know that this pants is wide pants, if I had used skinny pants I do not think it would have had the same result.

I cut the legs of the pants just for the area that I am marking here below.

Once I cut the legs of the pants I proceeded to open it on one side, until I obtained a sheet of both legs.

With this ready, place them one on top of the other on the same side, it has to be in the right measure.

Once we have it like this, we fold it in half and proceed to cut the upper part in a straight way (We want it to be as straight as possible because this will be our bottom part of the overalls)

Once cut I placed a skirt to measure how my body is and how I want the top of the overalls.

Leaving the skirt as a measure of the bottom. I proceeded at the top to trace the shape of the overalls which is a slightly diagonal line.

With my line drawn, I made the first cut, unfold the fabric to check how it was looking and I did not like it because I felt that it still did not have that form of overalls and I returned to place it as it was and cut a little more following the same shape until I was according.

>As I am not very good at cutting and my scissors were not that good either, the edges were a bit ugly so I proceeded to make a fold and mark it with an iron so that the fold is maintained and serves as a guide to know where to sew, because I was going to need to sew those parts together so it wouldn't look so ugly.

I used black thread for obvious reasons so that it is not visible, and I used a technique that my mother taught me to sew and not to notice, I tried to get someone to help me record myself while sewing so that the technique I use was noticed.

Once I sewn all the folds, it was time to put the parts together face to face, that everything was at the same level to make sure that it was really going to look good and I proceeded to sew everything.

With this ready we only have to add the braces and for that, we will use a part that was left over from the pants, the waistband. Precisely this part. In order not to ruin the fabric, the best thing is that with a tool to help us to untie the fabric, in fact I did the same with the sides of the pants, only to undo, never cut with scissors because I could ruin that part.

With this ready, we will cut it in half to have two exactly the same parts.

Now we only measure how far we want our braces to reach us in our overalls and sew it.

I added buttons to the top of the overalls and then to the braces I opened some holes so that the buttons can go through there.

What do you think of this result?

I'm still amazed about how you got to put everything together like that, and make a beautiful piece like that. Well done! <3
