MEEKNESS IS A MAJOR SIGN OF BROKENNESS
"BUT LET IT BE THE HIDDEN MAN OF THE HEART, in that which is not corruptible, EVEN THE ORNAMENT OF A MEEK AND QUIET SPIRIT, WHICH IS IN THE SIGHT OF GOD OF GREAT PRICE."
1 Peter 3:4 (KJV)
"BUT LET IT BE [the inner beauty of] THE HIDDEN PERSON OF THE HEART, with the imperishable quality and UNFADING CHARM OF A GENTLE AND PEACEFUL SPIRIT, [one that is calm and self-controlled, not overanxious, but serene and spiritually mature] WHICH IS VERY PRECIOUS IN THE SIGHT OF GOD."
1 Peter 3:4 (Amps)
• Being pious or soft-spoken is not what brokenness is and should not be mistakenly taken for brokenness.
- Looking sanctimoniously, being hypocritically pious or devout, is also not a brokenness.
- Meekness is the most prominent or significant character of whoever is broken.
• Qualities found in a meek believer or a broken believer:
I. Approachability
A broken believer would be approachable and would be a level headed person, someone who is considerate because he or she had been worked on by God (Titus 3:2). He or she can identify with the struggling of others (Galatians 6:1; Hebrews 4:14,15).
Such would have a listening ear to whatever others in the ministry or church might be saying (Colossians 3:12).
II. Sensitivity
A meek believer who is thoroughly broken is sensitive to the spirit longing or yarning of others. If what he or she is doing is wounding others in the body of Christ, they are sensitive enough to quickly detect that what they are doing is affecting other believers negatively.
If others are not edified by your Acts or doings, you are not walking in love and It means you are not sensitive to the needs of others (Romans 14:15).
A sensitive believer who is meek would not think about his or her own welfare alone:
3 LET NOTHING BE DONE THROUGH SELFISH AMBITION OR CONCEIT, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. 4 LET EACH OF YOU LOOK OUT NOT ONLY FOR HIS OWN INTERESTS, BUT ALSO FOR THE INTERESTS OF OTHERS" (Philippians 2:3,4 NKJV).
Such would want to think about others first before the self (1 Corinthians 10:24).
III. Mutual Corporateness
A believer who is broken and had meekness as a sign or evidence would have his or her spirit agrees with other believers.
Such would be considerate and be able to know and touch the spiritual feelings of others in the Body of Christ (Ephesians 4:2).
The move of God in the Body of Christ, what God is doing or set to do would not be strange to him or her.
Their spirit would be in agreement or collaborative with others to support the move of God and work towards the growth and the edification of the Body of Christ (James 3:13).
Whoever is contradictory and antagonistic, who disagrees with others in the Body; who is a contradicter or a quibbler, is not broken yet, and not meek as well.
IV. Receptivity
A broken believer who is meek would be receptive to others. Such would be flexible and be humble enough to be reached through other believers, even through those who could be considered not to be spiritually up to him or her.
Such would be willing to sit down and listen to others, their messages or whatever they have to say, even believers or ministers who could be considered not to be up to him or her in spiritual status or rank (James 1:21).
When It is difficult for a believer to sit down and listen and be blessed by any other believer's message or talk, It means such a person or believer has a pride or arrogance.
The amplified version of our text gives use us a good description of a believer who is thoroughly broken and meek: " . . . ONE THAT IS CALM AND SELF-CONTROLLED, NOT OVERANXIOUS, BUT SERENE AND SPIRITUALLY MATURE . . ." (1 Peter 3:4 Amps).
You will not fail in Jesus' name.
