What exactly is DLT?

DLT is a distributed database that is shared over a network of computers. This has several significant advantages, some of them are listed below.

Blockchain: It is the technology behind cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, is the most well-known DLT platform. Blockchain creates a chain of blocks, each holding a collection of transactions, using encryption. Once a block is added to the chain, it is nearly impossible to change, resulting in an immutable record of history.

Supply Chain Management: DLT can streamline and make more transparent the tracking of assets and materials along the supply chain, ensuring product authenticity and eliminating counterfeiting from the processes.

Healthcare: DLT allows for the secure storage and sharing of medical records, which improves patient care and allows for faster research collaboration. The patients can also make complete records of their disease history or so.

Voting systems: DLT can be used to develop safe and transparent voting systems, which reduces fraud and increase voter confidence over the election systems.

Intellectual property: DLT can make it easier to protect intellectual property such as copyrights and patents by establishing clear ownership and preventing illegal usage of them.

DLT in the Future...

DLT is still in its early phases of development, yet it has enormous potential to disrupt numerous industries. We should expect to see even more inventive applications as the technology evolves and adoption grows, altering the way we capture, distribute, and trust information. So, it's future is very much brighter and impressive.

Difficulties and Challenges...

While DLT has numerous advantages, there are certain drawbacks to consider as well. Some of them are listed below.

  • One major issue is that the scaling of DLT networks to handle high transaction volumes might be difficult.

  • Some of the DLT implementations, such as proof-of-work blockchains, require a lot of power and resources.

  • The proper implementation of the DLT may required the highly experienced staff and team as it has to own the trust of the users.
