For partnership you might not need that official paper (exists in my country) for marriage there is one and you declare to give up on your freedom. Sense? If you need something it might.
Marriage is not founded on love. Women are sold to the highest bidder since ages and still are. Men marry the unproblematic one, not the love of their life or suddenly are gay.
Next to that new generations have huge wishlist of the perfect partner. Dating sites are very helpful to filter out the "wrong" matches. Pity it doesn't come with smell, attraction and fortune cookies.
My bad, I should have elaborated further. The 'marriage' I was referring to is the most common (traditional) Christian marriage—it's where we got the idea of marriage; the rest just followed along.
I believe what you're referring to is the 'unconventional' marriage where people marry for certain reasons other than love. And I agree, this type of arrangement is quite prevalent. I, for one, finds it hard seeing myself marrying for love, not with the prices of goods and services constantly skyrocketing.
Best of luck to them. Perfect partner only exists in books and movies.
