RE: Securing Steem's Visual Future: The Image Hosting Proposal #115

in Steem Dev2 months ago

I voted for your proposal. I think it's good that there is an alternative.

But I don't think we've found a decentralised solution yet. It would be decentralised if there were several redundant storage locations for the images, so that the images would still be available in case of a failure. If, after six months, it turns out that the service is not financially viable, the images uploaded there will probably be lost.

Thanks for your support!

As we know SteemitImges is serving since the launch of Steem, The developers chose SteemitImages storage for good reasons we may not see.

You're right about decentralization being important. The developers chose this system because it works better for managing content and keeping things stable.

Sometimes images need to be moderated for safety, which is harder with fully decentralized storage. The need for controlled content management is particularly important as you noted, there have been instances where certain images needed to be moderated through backend systems. A fully decentralized storage approach could make such necessary content governance more challenging while maintaining platform integrity and legal compliance.

Let's hope the service stays running long-term!
