Cheating is referred to as any dishonest behavior by a student or trainee that is aimed at gaining unfair academic advantage during its tests, examinations, assignments, practicals, or other academic activities. It sabotage the probity of the educational system and beats the purpose of learning, which is to acquire or gain intelligence, knowledge, skills, values, and character.

This makes teachers and trainers consider cheating as a very serious concern in schools.

I had a terrible experience this week in one of the classes.

Behind me, a student was cheating with the notebook during the test.

Different Ways of Cheating in the Classroom:

  1. Copying a fellow classmate work.
  1. Copying from materials of the instructor.
  1. Impersonating another in the exams hall.
  1. Copying out questions and providing answers beforehand from the invigilator to the students.
  1. Alterations of answers script.
  1. Copying microchips or small paper into the examination hall.
  1. Using another person's work and idea as yours in the exam hall.
  1. The use of smartphones and other mobile technology inside the examination room.

What factors contribute to cheating among students in the school?

  1. Failure to prepare for the exams or tests.
  1. Comparison of students by teachers and parents. Like talking a very dull student down comparing him or her with a very bright student.
  1. Lack of moral values and discipline.
  1. Using poor teaching methods that a student finds difficult to understand and resolve by copying from the note or test to pass.

Consequences of cheating:

There are positive and negative consequences:

I start with the negative consequences which are

  1. The students will not develop a reading culture as such; it will affect intellectual growth.
  1. You loss integrity in the midst of some intellect in the classroom.
  1. It can affect the students even after school, like setting in dishonesty where he or she is found.
  1. It can create enmity amongst your classmates.

Positive consequences:

  1. It could help you in remembering the points you had once prepared.
  1. It would give you a better grade.
  1. It can land you in a big office and position, but you would be able to defend your results.

Ways of Preventing Cheating in the Classroom

  1. Proper preparation for every test and exams.
  1. Good teaching methods
  1. Parents and teachers should inculcate good morals into the lives of the students.
  1. Students should be supervised or monitored closely during exams or tests.
  1. There should be a penalty for the cheats.
  1. Parents should check and encourage their students at home.nce and Support.

In Conclusion

Cheating in the classroom is a very serious problem that can defeat the foundation of education if not tackled immediately. This menace can be curbed through a collective effort of the school, the students themselves, and parents.
