PromoSteem Community Cares for the North Aceh Flood Disaster

Background

Since December 30, 2021, the Aceh region has continued to experience heavy rains, causing flooding in 3 districts. The districts affected by the floods include Aceh Tamiang, East Aceh and North Aceh. The main cause of flooding is caused by the overflow of river water to residential areas.

One of our volunteers @guski, as well as a local journalist reported that in North Aceh district more than 30 thousand had to be evacuated due to flooding. Floods have inundated more than 113 villages from 15 sub-districts in North Aceh district. Currently, North Aceh is in the state of emergency response to natural disasters.

The rain caused the overflow of the Kreung Keureuto, Krueng Peuto, Krueng Pirak, Kreung Jambo Aye and Kreung Pase rivers. As a result, a number of houses in 15 sub-districts have been flooded with a height of about 50-100 cm. Floods have cut off road access and damaged a number of public facilities in several areas.

There are even a number of residents who are stuck in flood conditions in their homes. Road access in a number of areas was also cut off, a number of villages were also listed as isolated. Floods have resulted in paralysis of residents' activities.

Until January 5, 2021, a number of residents in the Lhoksukon sub-district were still living in refugee camps and at several higher locations. This disaster has had an impact on the breakdown of economic activity. Residents also began to be attacked by skin diseases, diarrhea, fever, and itching.

Therefore, our volunteer team took the initiative to help distribute logistics in the form of staple foods to the refugee camps. On Wednesday 5 January 2021, after doing the initial assessment, our team moved to buy food logistics. This logistics was purchased independently by our team of volunteers who are members of Steem for SDGs, Promoters and Army.

Refugee Needs

The logistics needed today are basic food, mineral water, medicines, vitamins, baby milk, diapers, blankets, and clothes.

Logistics Assistance Distribution Method

Logistics assistance will be sent directly by our volunteers to soup kitchens in refugee camps in flood-affected areas. In addition, we will also work with a number of NGOs to distribute aid to isolated areas. Our team will coordinate and manage management wisely and on target.
