We started feeling the outer bands of this storm since yesterday. Of course, what we had yesterday was a cloudy sky and some drizzle, but heavy rain started today at eleven, and it hasn't stopped. And I mean it is heavy rain, the pictures above were taken from my porch at eleven thirty p.m., so that is twelve hours of non stop rain. Remember I live in a higher area so the streets are not so easily flooded.

As you can see by the graph, the storm itself is still some three hundred kilometres from here and is moving very slowly. I live right where you see that dot. It should be in front of us sometime on Saturday. Unfortunately the whole Caribbean coast, at least up to where I live is being hit hard. A lot of bridges have been closed and with two more days of rain I am certain more than a couple of these bridges will be destroyed.

I do believe this will turn out to be a catastrophe for the country. Probably close to the scale of what Mitch did to us. and that is without this storm becoming a hurricane. The most vulnerable people are the guys who build their houses close to rivers, especially if they are actually just shacks. I hope these people had the sense to evacuate.

Well by Sunday we will be aware of what damages this storm has caused. I am not too optimistic, when we are hit by November storms it is major chaos, destruction everywhere, perhaps I am being too negative, but lately these storms to hit us every three years. I do hope the plantations are not hit too hard, because then we even have problems with food. Well what will be will be.
