My Best Friend's Graduation. A Proud Moment For Me..

"When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die. There is no middle ground.” I was too absorbed in reading the book, A Game of Thrones by George RR Martins. I had my headphones on and could only hear faint voices of people talking in the background except for that one annoying voice of an unknown person who kept on babbling.

The year is 2015 and it has only been 1 month since I shifted back to Pakistan from Saudi Arabia and got admission in a tuition center for my Olevels. I was an introvert back then and didn't quite like interacting with people. The only thing I loved was reading books. That's all I did, no matter where ever I was. Be it before a class, after a class, in recess etc.

That day, I was reading one of my favorites and I just couldn't concentrate on the book just because of that one guy. Upon asking, I got to know he's the new guy here, Syed Kawish Haider, who's just been enrolled in the same course. I couldn't care less. A few days later he approached me and that was our first interaction. I remember vividly, he asked me to come get a cup of tea with him after class to which I agreed. I mean there's no harm in making a few new friends in a place where you really don't know anyone.

That's where our friendship started and it has been almost 8 years to that. 8 years of having each other's backs, 8 years of hardships, fights, love, companionship and 8 years of pure friendship.

We both wanted to be doctors. That bonded us even further. But after High School, our paths changed and he went on to become a lawyer while I was enrolled in a Dental School. From meeting daily to meeting once in a week, to meeting once in a month. Responsibilities laden on our backs, we were both looking forward to become successful individuals. This never had an affect on our friendship. We'd still take out time to meet each other and when we spent time together, it always felt like before.

Last month, Kawish graduated as a Lawyer. He had a convocation ceremony in his Law School, but he couldn't make it due to some unforeseen circumstances. I knew he was really looking forward to his graduation day ceremony, and watching him miss it broke my heart. So, I coordinated with his closest friends and his parents to throw him a surprise graduation party at his own house. Yesterday we did that. Let's experience with me the Graduation Day of my best friend.

KAWISH'S GRADUATION PARTY🎓

Everything was preplanned. We had been planning this for about 3 weeks now. I got in touch with her mother who told me about her availability that day. We were a group of 8 people and everybody was assigned their specific duties.

I reached Kawish's house at 3 PM, directly from the hospital. Ebrahim had already taken Kawish out at 2:30 pm so that we could all reach in time and organize the Graduation Party theme.

The rest of the people reached just in time. We set-up the baloons, the ribbons and the big congratulations in the centre of the house. While some of us were busy in inflating balloons, the rest were writing their small messages on chits. We were wrecking havoc all around his house and Kawish's mother was just sitting their observing us all in happiness.

When everything was organized properly, we called Ebrahim to bring back Kawish by giving him any excuse he could think of at that time, during that time we took a couple of group photos. 10 minutes later, ebrahim texted that they're on their way. We all stood in a queue at the entrance of the house anticipating for Kawish's entry. As soon as he entered, he saw us all and was dumbfounded. He didn't move, didn't say a word, and just stood there for a few seconds before crying out loud. It was the second time I'd seen him cry. He just kept on crying as his mother stepped forward and hugged him. I was standing at the last of the queue watching it all while trying to hide my tears as well.

Once everyone had settled down, we started the actual graduation party. We all sat down on the sofa arranged right in front of the podium. Kawish was invited towards the centre where he firat gave his graduation speech. He mentioned how grateful he was for having such friends who'd go an extra mile just for the sake of his happiness.

After Kawish's speech, I was invited, as his oldest and closest friends. I gave a four minute long speech. That surprised me as well. I hadn't prepared anything. It all came pouring out straight from the heart.

His mom and dad were then invited, who gave a speech individually. It was a real heartwarming moment. Fathers usually don't admit of how proud they're of their kids but in moments like these, it's almost impossible to hide one's emotions. Even though his father didn't say much, but I guess we all understood the pride and happiness behind those few words.

They all came one after the other, gave their speeches and mentioned the experiences they've had with Kawish. It was rrally heartwarming to see all the close friends at one place, joining in with the happiness of our friends.

After the graduation speech, the food was served. In between that, we took a few pictures for the memories.

What I have learned from this day is that no matter how busy your schedule is, you should always take out time for your loved ones. You never know, how much would it mean to them. Your presence, your efforts and your friendships. Everything matters.
