MY EXTERNAL PROJECT DEFENSE/ 30th MARCH 2023
Am I the only one who feels the clock ticks faster than normal on very important and special dates?😊
Actually 30th march 2023 was a typical example.
My alarm rang to remind me that D-Day was here💃 Guess the occasion, it's my second phase of project defense. In my college we call it EXTERNAL DEFENSE
This second phase is quite different from the first I posted earlier. Are you wondering how?
So while the former (internal defense) was made up of judges and lecturers from my department and same school, the later (external defense) basically comprises judges from outside my school. So I might be in the University of uyo then the external supervisors will come from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu, Nigeria.
Well that was my typical scenario. My external supervisors came in very early in the morning. We had already received information that they would be coming that early at about 8:00 am in the morning that Thursday, so we were already prepared.
I arrived at the event venue early as scheduled. This time there was no crowd, just an individual with the external supervisors from other universities.
Students went in one after the other until it was my turn. I could feel my breath in my mouth, tension was at its peak. Just at that point, a friend whispered to my ear "Ubiere you can do this, you don't have to be scared" I felt a chill run down my spine. With so much confidence and enthusiasm, I walked right inside the office where they were all seated.
As I stepped in, one of the invigilators couldn't hide it, she voiced out "I'm giving you extra marks for your dressing, I love it".
I smiled back and voiced "thank you ma'am". The matter of the day began. All the invigilators had questions for me, yes, I sailed through. Was like a miracle because they at first doubted my capability but in the end they loved my presentation and used mine as a reference to the others.
They loved the idea behind my research work, which was basically industrial tablet preparation but not the conventional method. It was new, fascinating, interesting, enlightening, name it . I was glad I could come this far.
After my delivery, I was applauded and encouraged to do more beautiful things.
My session was over and it was picture time. I took some good photos with my colleagues, especially my colleagues supervised under the same supervisor.
We took pictures with the external supervisors and the head of department.
The day was gradually ending and I departed for other important activities to bring the day to a close.
After this we match to the next phase of life!!!
You are probably not the only one who feels the clock ticks faster than normal on very important and special dates. I feel that way too. Your post reminded me of my post-graduation viva voce experience. We also had external professor for our viva and it was quite scary and at the same time I felt the excitement of finally finishing my post graduation. I felt like a frightened chicken 😅

I think it's just the human nature to naturally gets nervous at situations similar to this. Also surprising how we eventually gets back our confidence while giving a meaningful presentation.

Your post reminds me of facing the viva board of my post-graduation. The same coldness I felt in my spine. Thank you for sharing your day with us.
The chills, the anxiety, the nervousness. Never always easy. But we always have the strength to withstand and come out successful.
