The diary game /23-05-2023/ First day at work as an Intern Pharmacist
What did you hear about first day at work?
Well I guess mine wouldn't be too different.
It's time to start my compulsory one year internship program as a Pharmacist at the University of Uyo teaching hospital. (UUTH)
I was filled with nervousness, not knowing exactly what to expect from my new place of work. As I reached the hospital gate, I was overwhelmed, happy I could start my internship program immediately after induction and I didn't have to wait to long.
Prior to this day of resumption, we were assigned our unit were we will work and this roaster is often rotated monthly so that we will work in all 9 (nine) units of the hospital pharmacy department.
Well, guess where my first posting is? I bet you wouldn't get it right 😁
I was posted to postnatal Pharmacy Unit of the hospital. Like I said, I didn't know exactly what to expect but I was sure of one thing, it was going to be fun here.
However we were told to report at Accident and emergency department to sign the time book on arrival. So as I arrived, I quickly went to sign the timebook.
After signing, I reported at my unit of posting, post natal pharmacy unit.
We were two intern Pharmacists at the unit, so my colleague and I reported for duty. We were very welcomed by our unit head, Pharm Jenny and other pharmacy technicians. We were given unit orientation, after which we assigned task for the day.
As part of today's task, we were to visit patient in the ward, and administer pharmaceutical care. So for today, we went to post natal ward, basically comprising of women after delivery.
We had interaction with this patients and went through thier folders while encouraging them to adhere strictly to thier medications.
We had an interesting ward round as it is called. Due to patients confidentiality and privacy, we weren't allowed to take pictures in the ward.
After the ward round, we went to the postnatal Pharmacy Unit. I was to carry out documentation and inspection of all drugs carried out of the unit either by patient or health professional.
I enjoyed every bit of today's work with my colleague and unit head and other pharmacy technicians.
It was the official closing time, and we were about leaving the unit.
After work at the hospital, I reported at the community pharmacy outlet were I also work, it was a busy evening and everything went smooth. Patients coming in and out, well attended to.
It was closing time already and I headed home immediately. Reaching home I freshened up, ate and rested for the day, in anticipation of the next day.
