Hello friends. Today I am excited to share in this challenge. This particular week evokes a lot of emotions for me maybe because I am not big on eating out, I prefer to cook my own food except for special occasions when I get to visit a nice fast food or good restaurant to eat.
What is the name and location of the restaurant, food vendor, or local eateries?

For someone not big on eating out, I have always had challenges with visiting restaurants and mostly because the ones I know especially local restaurants do not know how to cook well.
The food always do not meet my taste but I am excited to share this particular local restaurant with us because after a long search, I was able to see somewhere that I can mange to eat their food comfortably and not loathe the food.
So there’s this local restaurant that opened on our street. I have been seeing it but took no interest in them until my sister told me that she had eaten food there and it was nice. At first I was skeptical until I decided to give them a trial and indeed I was suprised by the food taste.
The food was actually nice more than I had expected and since then, it has become my go to place for food anytime I want to eat out. The name of this restaurant is Vicky Best Calabar kitchen, located at 21 Okuta road Ilaje, Bariga.
These are the restaurants location coordinates.
It’s beside Bokku mart a popular supermarket in the street and that’s what is visible on the map.

The restaurant is a Calabar restaurant located on the road and in a place that’s easily accessible. People always come to eat there mostly in the mornings and the evenings and her food always finishes on time and they mostly cook Calabar dishes with some Igbo dishes.
Inside the restaurant are seats adjacent to a table attached to the walls. There is a cabinet for keeping plates and trays with the micro wave on top. There is a refrigerator where drinks and water is chilled. There is also a television for entertainment for the customers. The restaurant is a small one but very convenient.
What food did you buy from the place? Let's know the price.

The food I bought was bitterleaf soup and Garri swallow. I wanted to eat Oha soup but she makes it only on Thursday’s. She had afang soup, Okoro soup, vegetables soup and Egusi soup with bitter leaves soup on her menu. I had to go for bitterleaf soup. Not the regular bitterleaf leaves, this is Calabar bitter leaves soup made with bitterleaf and water leaves.
She said the soup was almost finished as I came in the early evening. I had to wait for her to dish the food and microwave it for me. Her food is readily affordable. The amount I paid was 1500 Naira. I didn’t have cash with me so I had to transfer the money to her. Here’s the evidence of the transfer.

There is a sticker on the wall showing the account number to transfer to and also another sticker telling creditors to back off for those who would want to buy on credit without paying.
How did the food taste and look like also can you recommend the food to others, and explain your reason why
Honestly this food tastes really nice to compare with most of the kitchen I have eaten their food. It was because of bad cooking that made me stop eating out but since I ate in this kitchen, my trust to eat out was restored.
She uses enough ingredients and different types of protein to cook her food. I even wonder if she makes enough gain because you will see stock fish, smoked fish, Pomo and meat inside that soup she’s selling. It makes the soup very rich and tasty. I would recommend it easily for anyone especially as it’s very affordable too.
How was the customer service and environment of the place?
Clean environment

One thing I love about that restaurant is the fact that the woman that runs it is very friendly. She’s calm in attending to us and she even gists with us whenever we come around to buy food. She has this special liking for me and my sister that she will always put extra soup for us because we told her we like plenty soup. And sometimes she even puts extra meat in our food. She’s very friendly and simple.
Some facilities

Another thing I love about it is that the environment is very clean. The tables, floor and the cabinet where she put her food is clean. It’s not those restaurants where there are flies everywhere. The environment is clean and you can comfortably sit down there and eat your food but I prefer to buy and take it home.
The small facilities like fans, television, refrigerator etc makes the place looks conducive and relaxing.
Do you think the food is worth the price? Why?
![]() | ![]() |
|---|
I don’t just think the food is worth the price, I think it should be a little bit more than the price she’s selling it like I explained before. The food is very tasty and has enough ingredients that makes it quality unlike some restaurants that will put only maggi and spices therefore making the food taste strange.
The different ingredients she uses to cook it and the assorted protein options makes it unique. The afang even have shelled periwinkles inside alongside the meat, cow skin, dry fish and smoked fish with stock fish. She’s really trying and she’s a good cook too. So the food is worth the price.

Review/Grading
Review:
You have visited the "Vicky Best Calabar kitchen", and I am sure you enjoyed the bitterleaf soup at the local eatery. Having such a local eatery that serves nice food. Such a business needs to have workers to take care of customers' orders so customers wouldn't be left waiting for long before being served. Local eatery sells cheaper food, but the issue is often taste.
I am trying to understand this statement 👇 in your post.
It’s an error. I’ve corrected it. Thanks
