The diary game 30/3/26; The Day I Finally Chose My Health

in Ladies Universe4 days ago

Dear dairy,

The day before today was a difficult one for me. I woke up feeling sick. I had been feeling this way for the past two month and had been trying to manage it on my own but at this juncture, I knew I won’t have to keep on like that.

I knew it was time for me to see a doctor. I had spoken to my big brother the day before telling him that I would be needing his help with some funds to take myself to the hospital cos I didn’t have enough money on me.

He ageeed to help. He asked me to get to the hospital and find out what it would take for me to get treated and get back to him. I had made up my mind that I was going to see a doctor. I really needed to.

I woke up and had my morning routine of praying and reading my Bible. We had an online meeting by 9am which I joined while trying to get ready to leave for the hospital. In between the meeting, I had time to make breakfast and eat cos I wasn’t about to start that long journey to the hospital on an empty stomach.

I also took my bath and packed up a few items in my school bag. The hospital is on another part of town and I have to sleep over as my brother place since his house is closer to the hospital. I won’t be able to traffic to and fro my house. That would be very stressful for me.

So I intended to stay over at his place until I see the doctor, go to the lab and get my tests results before getting my medications. It was around past 12pm when I left for the hospital. I arrived around past 1pm and there were still a lot of people on the queue to see the doctor.

I activated my hospital card and sat down on the long queue waiting for my turn. It took over two hours plus before I was able to see a doctor. I spent time explaining to the doctor the symptoms that I was feeling and he made some prescriptions for me.

I was asked to go to the lab for test and also needed to do some scan. Well, it was already evening and that wasn’t going to be possible. I collected a sample bottle to get my stool sample as they requested and then I was asked to come to the hospital very early the next day to get my lab test done.

I had to branch over to the pharmacy to make enquires on the price of the drugs that the doctor prescribed for me. It was almost 50,000 Naira and I was shocked to see that he has prescribed ulcer drugs for me. Ulcer? How’s that possible. Well, I told myself that I wasn’t going to buy those drugs until I see my lab result.

I headed home to my cousins place. I hadn’t eaten something reasonable for the day. I had to branch over at a nearby market to get things for chicken Peppersoup. That was what I was craving. I needed something to whet my appetite with.

I bought half kilo of frozen chicken, scent leaves, crayfish and Peppersoup spice. And headed home to my brothers place. When I arrived, I made my way to the kitchen to cook the Peppersoup with the other condiments that they had at home.

After about an hour plus, the peppersoup was ready. I sat down and ate to my satisfaction and it was late evening. Well the rest of the night I spent on binging on a series on my phone. Before I retired, I had to also eat some slices of bread spread with mayonnaise as dinner. I didn’t want to be heavy.

That was how my Monday went. I needed to be at the hospital early the next morning. As early as 8am hence I had to try to sleep on time. Because early to bed is early to rise.

Medication of almost ₦50k for ulcer?
This is why I love my father. Despite the high cost of medications and lab tests, he always recommends highly effective medications that are affordable. No reason to break the bank. But I get, sometimes location, brands and specific health issues can influence the prices of these medications.

Get well soon.
If you can, use a health insurance as well.

Thanks sis
