Electricity | A Freewrite | Prompt: Dead Battery
This is my freewrite, prompted by @mariannewest.
Jacob was walking back from school, passing by a few storefronts and tall buildings, a few people passing him on the way. His mom was probably already making dinner, as she liked to eat early. Probably tacos again.
He walked by a few dumpsters, which he passed almost every day, but this time heard and unusual noise. Bweep... b-bweeeee..., then a small ding of metal on metal. Curiosity overtook him, and he slowly walked toward the dumpsters. Jacob looked all around, but didn't see anything. Stepping on the square pipe that it could be lifted up by, he balanced and heaved open the lid to the dumpster. A horrible smell emerged, and inside were garbage bags and loose trash. But there was a small, metal figurine, about six inches tall. He reached down and grabbed it and brought it to the light. It was made of what felt like acrylic, with metal hands and feet, as well as a metal head. Jumping down, he stuffed it in his already-full backpack.
Later, when he had come home and gone to his bedroom immediatly, Jacob examined the figurine, which was limp. He tried poking it with a pencil tip, and found that the acrylic-material was slightly squishy. Then it gave a pitiful bwee, and its face lit up with two glowing blue eyes. Maybe the battery is dead. Grabbing a AA from his clock, Jacob pressed it into the chest of the figurine. It sank in, and a whirring came from it. It's glowing blue eyes sputtered to life, and emitted a strong Bweep! Jacob grinned, wondering where the robot had come from.
