As I was driving down the country road, I could barely see a few feet in front of me. That's how thick the fog was. Suddenly I saw bright lights in front of me.

Before I had time to react, my car was veered off the road. As I crashed, I realized it was a truck. My head hurt terribly, and so did my midsection. I was sure i had a few cracked ribs. As I weekly crawled out of my vehicle, I saw that the truck was gone.

To my dismay, my phone had been completely shattered, so I couldn't call for help. My only hope was finding someone who could give me a ride to a hospital.

I went to the side of the road, and waited for someone to drive by. A few cars did arrive, but even as I waved and called to them for help, they didn't stop.

"What kind of a world do we live in?" I thought, "can these people not see that I'm hurt?"

After being ignored by the fourth car, I decided I should just try to walk to the nearby town.

That's when I saw the silhouette of a man a short distance away. I decided to approach him, as the pain was getting unbearable now.

"Excuse me, sir!" I said as I walked to the middle aged man in a white shirt and khaki pants, "I'm.... I'm badly hurt. My car was hit by a truck...."

"Whoa! Easy there, buddy!" said the man in a friendly tone, "it's all right. Don't worry."

"Sir, if you can just help me get to a hospital...."

"Sure man! I'll get you the help you need. Come with me."

The man gently took my arm and put it over his shoulder, allowing me to lean on him. I was deeply grateful for such kindness.

"Thank you.... sir!" I said to him, "my name is Gaurav."

"I'm Rohit." He replied, and with a laugh added "and please don't call me sir".

"Do you live nearby, Rohit?" I asked.

"Oh.... I've been here for years."

We made small talk as Rohit walked me to town. Or so I thought.....

I soon realised that we were back in the same place where my car had crashed.

"Rohit.... what's going on?" I asked, "you said you were taking me to town."

Rohit smiled at me calmly and said, "look inside your car and all your questions will be answered."

I did as he said.

I peeked into my car and saw myself!

I saw my own corpse!

"No... NO!!" I exclaimed, "this can't be! I can't be dead!"

"I'm so sorry, Gaurav." Rohit said in that same, calm voice. "But you are now only a wandering spirit. You see, this place traps the likes of you and me who were taken before their time. The only way we can move on is if we help another lost soul understand that they are dead."

"But.... but Rohit...." I had begun to weep. Strangely, I could no longer feel any physical pain.

"Thank you Gaurav, for allowing me to help you see the truth. Now you must remain here until you too have helped someone the same way."

Rohit faded away right before my eyes.

I've been here ever since. A rover of the fog waiting for another soul to lose themselves, so that I can finally move on.

It reminds me of a film I saw 🤔

Which one?

Oh, dear. She has to wait till someone replaces her. As if it's monopoly. 👍
