Day 871: 5 Minute Freewrite: Monday - Prompt: panic

Prompt provided by @mariannewest

She stopped to catch her breath. Her heart was racing and it seemed like she couldn’t gain any ground. The shadow behind seemed to keep gaining on her, no matter how fast her feet pounded against the pavement. Knowing that if she kept standing there, there was no doubt that the shadow would overtake her in moments.

And who know was would happen then.

Steeling herself, she willed her foot to step forward, desiring to break into a run. But her feet were planted firmly on the ground. She struggled, but they would not break free.

She panicked. What was happening? Why couldn’t she move!?!

She tried her other foot. Same result. But this time she could not distinguish either of her feet from the ground beneath her.

Glancing back over her shoulder, she knew that the shadow would overtake her. But there was nothing she could do. She was frozen in place, frozen to the ground.

What would happen to her now?

Her life began to play like a movie in front of her. The fight with her mom. How she’d slammed the door in her mom’s face. The pain she knew it cost. It all seemed like such a small problem now. Oh, why did she have to be this stubborn?

As the shadow jumped to overtake her, she jolted awake.
