A few days ago, on the 22nd night of Ramadhan, I had the chance to be in Banda Aceh. After attending a warm and meaningful iftar gathering with the AERMI team at Hermes Palace Hotel, the night didn’t just end there. We continued our journey to perform Isya and Taraweeh prayers at one of the most iconic places in Aceh, Baiturrahman mosque.

That moment felt special. From the bright lights of the hotel to the calm and sacred atmosphere of the mosque, it was like transitioning from a world of activity into a space full of peace. Walking into the courtyard, I could see people from all walks of life gathering, sitting, reflecting, and preparing themselves for prayer. The vibe was alive, yet so serene.

Baiturrahman Mosque truly lives up to its reputation as the pride of Aceh. The architecture is stunning, with its grand domes, elegant pillars, and the iconic giant umbrellas that give a unique touch, especially at night. The lighting makes the entire mosque glow beautifully, creating a peaceful and almost magical atmosphere. Inside, the mosque is just as impressive, clean, spacious, and filled with a sense of unity as rows of worshippers stand shoulder to shoulder in prayer.

Stepping inside, the atmosphere became even more touching. The interior is spacious, clean, and filled with a sense of unity. Rows of worshippers lined up neatly, shoulder to shoulder, creating a powerful image of togetherness. When the Taraweeh prayer began, everything else seemed to fade away, the noise, the thoughts, the distractions. What remained was a deep sense of connection, both spiritually and emotionally.

Inside the mosque, the beauty feels truly alive and deeply touching. The mihrab stands out with its elegant golden design, adorned with intricate Arabic calligraphy, serving as both the focal point and a graceful guide for the direction of prayer. Beside it, the wooden mimbar showcases detailed carvings that reflect strong Islamic artistic heritage and tradition. The walls are decorated with harmonious patterns in shades of white, green, and gold, creating a calm and soothing atmosphere.

Above, a grand chandelier hangs beautifully, adding a sense of luxury while still maintaining a peaceful and spiritual ambiance. Altogether, every element blends perfectly, creating not only visual beauty but also a deep sense of serenity for everyone who prays inside.

This mosque features numerous white pillars that stand elegantly throughout the interior, creating a sense of symmetry and grandeur. Their clean white color reflects light perfectly, making the entire space feel brighter, more open, and incredibly serene for worshippers. Complementing this, the mosque is covered with thick, soft green carpets that are exceptionally clean, providing comfort and adding a calming visual contrast that makes the prayer experience even more peaceful and enjoyable.

For me, praying here was more than just fulfilling an obligation. It was an experience, one that reminds you to slow down, to breathe, and to truly feel the essence of Ramadhan. In the middle of a busy journey, moments like this become a reset button for the soul.

Sometimes, we think we need long trips or big plans to find meaning. But in reality, even a simple stop, at the right place and the right time, can give us something far more valuable. That night at Masjid Baiturrahman was not just a visit, it was a reminder, a reflection, and a moment I’ll carry for a long time.
