Masjid jami' Al Ikhlas
Assalamu'alaikum my stemian friends, let me share my little story today.
On my trip to Banda Aceh for Abizar’s entrance test tomorrow, I stopped for taking rest at my sister house at perumnas keutapang sigli. I arrived there at 5.30. I decided to perform Maghrib prayer at Masjid Al-Ikhlas, a mosque located right on the Medan–Banda Aceh main road. It’s the kind of mosque that naturally becomes a resting point for musafir. If you’re traveling far, this is one of the spots where people often pull over to breathe, stretch, pray, and continue their journey with a calmer heart.

From the outside, the mosque looks quite simple. Nothing fancy, nothing grand, just a modest building with a quiet charm.
But once you step inside, everything changes instantly.

The interior is unexpectedly beautiful: warm wooden ceilings, gentle lighting, clean white walls, and touches of gold that make the mihrab glow softly. It feels peaceful, elegant, and spiritually comforting, a perfect place to reconnect after being on the road for hours. The air was very cool with AC in every side of the mosque.

Some jamaah was doing sunnah prayer after magreb
The jamaah was quite crowded when magrib prayer, a mix of locals and travelers. Some were resting, some were praying sunnah, some were simply sitting quietly. The mosque feels alive, but never noisy, just the right balance between activity and serenity.

Parking area
Even though the parking space isn’t very wide, it’s well-organized. Vehicles line up neatly, and people come and go smoothly without any chaos. For a roadside mosque, this is something worth appreciating.

Wudhu area
The wudhu area is also surprisingly clean. The floors are dry, the water flows well, and everything feels fresh. It’s simple, but well-maintained, and that makes a big difference.

Gazebo
There’s a gazebo outside, tucked neatly at the corner, specially provided for women who are unable to pray. It’s shaded, comfortable, and gives them a private place to sit, rest, or wait without feeling exposed.

Overall, Masjid Al-Ikhlas is a pleasant surprise. Simple from the outside, but warm, elegant, and deeply comforting once you step in. A quiet sanctuary for anyone traveling along the highway, a place to pause, refresh, and continue the journey with a lighter heart.

Masjid Al-Ikhlas, the mosque that was originally built as a contribution from President Soeharto’s foundation.

Entrance door
Masjid Al-Ikhlas reminded me that beauty doesn’t always shout from the outside. Sometimes, the most peaceful places reveal themselves only after you step in. A simple building, yet full of warmth, comfort, and sincerity.

A perfect pause in the middle of a long journey and a gentle reminder that sometimes, the best treasures are hidden behind the simplest doors.
