Hello friends of this beautiful community of travelers.

It is with immense joy that I take this opportunity to share my recent post with all of you. I composed it just yesterday, recounting my unforgettable expedition to Forte Lisser, an exceptional and captivating stronghold that played a crucial role during the tumultuous years of the First World War. This formidable defensive edifice stands proudly at an impressive altitude of approximately 1500 meters in the magnificent region of Veneto.

I cannot contain my excitement as I recollect the profound significance of this remarkable journey. To witness firsthand the grandeur and historical significance of Forte Lisser was a truly awe-inspiring experience. Its imposing presence and rich historical heritage have left an indelible mark on my memory. As I treaded its hallowed grounds, I couldn't help but be overwhelmed by the weight of its past and the stories it silently whispered.

To tell the truth, I came to this area not only to visit this monument that marked the history of Italy, but also because I really enjoy trekking on mountain trails. It is right near this significant fort that one of the most important trails in the area unfolds, and it is frequented by thousands of people both in summer and winter. So, I took the opportunity to visit this place that, to be honest, I had never visited before.

You should know that I am a lover of both history and nature, so this fort represented an important stop for me. In fact, the fort was built between 1911 and 1914 to allow the Italian army to control the Adige Valley and prevent the advance of the Austrians.

As you can see from some photos, this fort is composed of a reinforced concrete structure with four armored turrets that were once equipped with cannons and machine guns. After extensive restoration, the interior of the fort can be visited, where you can explore the rooms where the soldiers were housed, the ammunition depot, the power station, and the command center.

In my opinion, this visit would be even more captivating if a small museum were set up inside the fort, perhaps as a memorial to this tragic event that affected Italy and the whole of Europe in the early 1900s, which was the First World War. It would also be a way to remind the new generations of how ugly war can be.

As I mentioned, the fort is surrounded by a beautiful forest of firs and beech trees where you can take wonderful walks or simply stop to admire the panorama.

However, the fort is only open to the public from June to September during the summer period, and even though it offers the possibility of a free guided tour every hour, it is an experience not to be missed for history enthusiasts as well as architecture enthusiasts. It's always fascinating to see these structures up close and understand their functioning.

See you in the next post. Thank you for taking the time to read my post. It has been an honor and a pleasure for me. I wish you all a good day.

Hello dear butterfly, 🦋 happy to see you again with a new article now about a fort, which remembered me the one I've visited in my own city for the occasion of its anniversary number 259. For sure this kind of structures englobes a lot of history related with defense against wars and battles, where they really served for that specific purpose. Thank you so much for sharing here in ST Community. Regards and happy new week.
