It's not surprising that an artist would seek out a quiet corner to express their art, where they could create something away from the hustle and bustle of the world. So if the person in your story left the city in search of a quiet corner, it wouldn't be anything new, because an artist needs peace of mind to imagine.
The point is that Ernesto needs to work to live; he's not just an artist, his art is the foundation of his well-being. So, feeling pressured by the work he has to deliver, he makes the wrong decision. He doesn't need anything more than to sit down and do what he knows. His neighbor reminds him of this, and the end of the story makes it very clear and in a funny way. I think this could happen; pressure isn't good, especially at work. For example, if I need to work a few hours on a Sunday, I do it. I don't get paid for that time, but I can relax while working, and I know that I can earn that money at one of the fashion shows. In fact, when I have to participate in fashion shows, I earn more than in a normal two weeks.
A true artist is one who can naturally bring imagination to his page, and it is not up to a human being to naturally bring any imagination to his mind. For this, the human mind needs to be relaxed, and that is achieved only through silence and peace. To give my own example, I am not an artist, but when I sit down to write any post on Steemit, I want silence and peace. So I choose a time when all the family members are gone somewhere or there is silence in the house.

Very true. It is hard to focus on all the thoughts and ideas if you are constantly disturbed. One can work but it would be way better if able to finish without disturbances.
When a task is done with constant concentration, it is completed more quickly than when it is faced with constant disturbances.
