The Last Dish

We used to prepare many dishes because in the past my mother ran a small restaurant. I call it that to give you an idea, because it wasn't really a restaurant, but it was a place where people had lunch and dinner, in a simpler and more homemade way.

Back then we lived in Asunción, until things started to go wrong and my parents decided to sell and move to the countryside. However, I remember that the last dish my mother cooked to serve to customers on the last day before closing was a huge success, all the diners praised the flavor of the food saying they had never eaten a dish as delicious as that day.

For my mother it was a bittersweet moment, she was happy for the congratulations and praise for her food but sad because that menu represented the last dish she served in her business after so many years of working so hard.

El último platillo

Solíamos preparar muchos platillos debido a que en el pasado mi madre manejaba un pequeño restaurante. Lo llamo así para que tengan una idea, porque realmente no era un restaurante, pero sí era lugar donde se almorzaba y cenaba, de forma más sencilla y más casera.

En aquel entonces vivíamos en Asunción, hasta que las cosas empezaron a irnos mal y mis padres decidieron vender y emigrar al campo.

Sin embargo recuerdo que el último platillo que cocinó mi madre para servir a los clientes el último día antes de cerrar, fue todo un éxito, todos los comensales halagaron el sabor de la comida diciendo que nunca habían comido un platillo tan rico como ese día.

Para mi madre fue un momento agridulce, estaba feliz por las felicitaciones y halagos a su comida pero triste porque aquel menú representaba el último platillo que servía en su negocio después de tantos años de trabajar con tanto ahínco.
