RE: POLL: Do You Like to Write Poetry?
I have to admit, some poems, I do not understand, no matter how many times I read them. And then I wonder, do I need to think a certain way haha. So, poems for me, it depends. I write them when I have an inspiration to. And for me to appreciate poems by others, I have to understand, else I don't appreciate. But when there are comments saying how good it is, I would scratch my head wondering how is it good? Then, I would end up not commenting because I do not know what to say haha.
I love story tellers too, inspiring ones especially. I do enjoy watching motivational story tellers because I need some form of motivation to pump me up sometimes. Even in movies or dramas, I enjoy watching characters who are story tellers. And I love story telling but mostly on my life stories or something I watched or heard. I think my brain is not as creative or imaginative as I want it to be sometimes. I've been thinking to participate in the Exquisite Corpse but my brain doesn't want to co-operate 😅But I do agree that the more we read, the more we experience or the more we hear, it does help with writing.
In participating in the Exquisite Corpse, there is (as it seems to me) NO necessarity to co-operate. Let your mind flow and spin up the story, or concatenate an independent fragment by some clever written connecting phrases. ;-)

If you ask me you need to think in a certain way to understand a poem. Given that there are so many different poems, you therefore have to think in so many different ways, and that isn’t always easy. Of course, that doesn’t really matter in itself, because sooner or later there’s bound to be a reader for every writer. Sometimes it clicks straight away and you grasp the meaning of a poem; other times, it remains a complete mystery. I often find this happens with poems that are classified as literature, and indeed with books that are classified as literature too. I’ve no idea who decided they’re literature; they’re often incredibly boring and don’t really encourage you to read them.
I think that if your brain isn’t playing ball, you should just try again a bit later; there’ll come a moment when it clicks, and if it doesn’t, that’s no big deal either. I don’t always understand what’s written either, and when that happens, I simply stop reading that sort of thing. Sometimes it clicks, but conversely, there are also poems that I used to like and which I now just find to be odd little rhymes. Perhaps you need to be in the right frame of mind for it, or you need to be at a certain stage in your life. I also think that if you’re part of a circle of poets, you’ll soon start doing it yourself; the same goes for a circle of storytellers or freewriters.

Ah it does make sense, the "clicking". It is true, when things jive, they jive. And you don't need to even try. It just flows effortlessly. I guess it is the same with art in general? Some art that we see, we would feel it, we get it while some, we wonder what it is. And this too:
I do realize that the things we like changes over time, depending at which stage we are in life. Poetry may well be one of those things. And interestingly, when I do write a poem, I didn't intend to at first but the words that flow are poem-ish (mainly because the mind didn't feel like writing whole sentences hahaha), which is how I decided then to turn them into a poem.
