Ultimately, they're decorative vases, because if you can't put liquid in them, at least you can put some pretty flowers in them.
They can also be used to store kitchen utensils, hahaha, they have to be good for something and not just decoration.

As far as I know flowers like to drink water. With a lit it could be a cookie jar or perhaps, since @aellly told those birds are magpies, all the treasures you have.
Actually, I meant artificial flowers, because you mentioned that water couldn't be added.
I have no idea what kind of bird is reflected in the vase, maybe it's a magpie.
