I don't like things that are dirty to handle, and that's definitely the case with this box of pan pastels. After reading the reviews on AliExpress, I thought: let's give it a try. It wasn't a real bargain, but it was listed among the deals. The only advantage was that I got it a few pence cheaper and that it's much cheaper than the branded pan pastels.
The reviews were good, so that's always a plus, as is the high pigment content. When the package arrived, I already had a bad feeling. Everything was covered in brown powder, and when it arrived, I couldn't remember ordering it, let alone what the brown powder was. The plastic bag it came in was torn on all sides, as if a mouse had gnawed on it. I took some photos first and then carefully opened it, and this is what I found inside. The corner was broken, there was a tear in the lid, and the jar for brown was completely empty. Later, I swept up the crumbs and pieces, but even then I couldn't fill a jar, which also gives me pause for thought. There can't be that much in it, and when I think about it, I still have to clean it up and then see if it's usable, so this is actually a waste of money.

After submitting a complaint and sending the photos, I had to wait and see how AliExpress would respond. I've had very bad experiences with them in the past, and complaints were often ignored. In this respect, things have definitely improved. Although I didn't hear anything personally, the money was refunded to my account without further questions. So now I'm stuck with a filthy box that's too dirty to touch. I'm going to see if I can push the brown stuff into the pot with a piece of toilet paper or newspaper and if I can clean the other pastels and the lid, because otherwise it will just get brown again. Who knows, maybe I'll try to figure out what can be done with this and how far I can get. In the meantime, I've finished the fish request and am practising hard on watercolours today. I've never been a big fan of this, but after watching lots of videos, it turns out there are many different techniques and it's certainly not like the watercolours I remember. It's much more like painting with acrylics. And while I'm cleaning up the not-so-great deal, I'm also going to think about what I'm going to do tomorrow in painting class, which is, of course, preparing, because if I have to wait for the teacher, it's mostly drinking coffee and chatting, and I don't really feel like doing that. I still find it a bit strange that everyone does their own little project and no techniques are taught, or maybe I should say that I find that a pity.

I don't paint anything, well, let's just say I paint imaginatively. In fact, everything I do turns out beautiful, but only I can see it, that's the thing, hahaha.
I suppose the teacher is observing the students' creativity and will teach them later.

I have no idea what we learn, I think it's just a tea party like in Alice in Wonderland. Some people work on their own projects and others end up with nothing. You really have to ask if you want something and then you sometimes have to wait a long time and of course those two hours fly by. I don't have time for that, I'd rather try myself or look it up on the internet myself and many more people do that.

Yesterday I did visit her at her place and asked her why she doesn't just teach and try out different materials two or three times. She said she did that in the beginning, years ago, but then people got angry and walked away because they refused to try something new (for example a still life or something else).
It simply didn't work. You end up teaching an empty classroom.

In principle, I wouldn't care at all, because I'd rather have one good student than twenty who are just there to make noise and not create anything, but I suppose there must be some kind of subsidy involved with regard to the space or whatever. Or who knows, from a social point of view, I think it's a great pity in any case. To be completely honest, I think the quality of her work has declined. I've seen old paintings from her early years, also done in pastel, and they are beautiful, but what I've seen lately... I think: that's just a bit of a botched job. In any case, she has enjoyed it for many years and is still teaching, which is admirable. Although I suspect she wants to stop, because she is now teaching someone at her home and she told me that that person can take over from her.

I am sure that everything you paint in your head looks great!

Such a waste. Sometimes those sellers didn't wrap things properly. But it's good that they refunded you. Whenever I feel something off when I receive a parcel, I would start recording video before I start unwrapping.

How about the taking out the remaining good ones to another container and toss this dirty one out?

I don't have anything else to put those little containers in, they're stuck in the plastic box, so I wiped away as much of the brown residue as possible with a piece of toilet paper, hahaha. I tried to push the larger brown pieces into the empty container and then pressed them down hard with paper. No idea if that will work. I cleaned as much as possible and then wrapped foil around it and closed the lid. I don't know what I'm going to do with it yet. I do think it feels much smoother or greasier than the crayons I have. And I know that I can't transport it, because that's guaranteed to go wrong and I don't want everything covered in greasy chalk residue, because you can't wash it off and it won't wash out of clothes either.

I remember reading about how people repair their eyeshadow palettes—smashed like your color palette. I'm not entirely sure if it works. Found a video.

Yes, it looked exactly this way. Thanks for the video. I will make myself a cup of tea while watching it.

🍀❤️

Ps She doesn't look very handy to me. Why not press it into the makeup box at once? Why is that mat needed? Why not using a smaller spoon to pu5 it back? Why not lift the box and hold it above the cup?
I believe my way is faster
.
Pity that those boxes remain dirty.

You will improvise from her mistakes 😊😊😊

Well, the product is yours and I'm sure you'll find something good to do with it. Maybe You already manager how ro clean up the brown poder but I think a brush would be helpful.

I would put the brown pieces into another container, I think there is no way you can put all that together.

Probably the members of that class and the teacher think of it more like a club where they can spend time practicing previously known techniques.

With a brush you smear out the brown everywhere it's not dry powder. I pressed a part back into the empty place and tried to wipe of a part with toilet paper but it takes away more of the other colours. In the future I will think out how to use it... Some BarbaBob art might be an option. 🤣

Ha ha ha, You can create it yourself, or simply experience the nuances that the messy powder brings; something good might come of it.
