Love and every holiday is indeed a major source of income. You see this with Christmas, New Year's Eve, Easter, Father's Day, Mother's Day, Animal Day, and so on, even International Peanut Butter Day.
For us, the day has never really caught on. Most people will forget it, and no one will be deeply hurt. You won't find any Valentine's Day items in most shops either, at most one artificial rose or a few small trinkets.
Regarding flowers: I think there's only one florist left in the village, and the flowers are horribly expensive. It's quite strange for a country that grows a lot of flowers, but here too, the price is deliberately kept high (when there's a lot of supply, the price normally drops, but the auction simply throws away most of the flowers the growers bring).
I think that when it comes to love, this should always be reflected in behavior. I don't think I can live off a bunch of flowers given to me on Valentine's Day for a year. I don't think my memory is good enough for that. I also don't think it's a sign of love. I'd rather have something other than a bouquet made by someone else.
By the way, Valentine's Day was/is the day we secretly send someone a token of love. That's usually a note or a card. I think the rest has also come over from America, where people apparently make a scene if their partner forgets to buy or organize something (expensive).
I wish you a lovely evening and a fantastic weekend on Friday the 13th!
I've seen people focused on this day, they're preparing to sell their bouquets of flowers accompanied by teddy bears, and now dogs and cats too. I don't know why people are so dedicated to these animals. They forget about themselves. Animals need humans, not the other way around, but it seems they forget that. But as I always say, everyone decides for themselves, and that's respectable. This day is a great opportunity for those who can make a profit; it seems like a better way to celebrate.

And how about Christmas? It's only 6 weeks ago and exactly the same was celebrated or? It must be an attack on the wallet... do animals need humans? If you ask me they can take care of themselves except when humans interfere and starts breeding what nature wouldn't have invented or can't keep alive.
Do you mean dogs and cats are given for a present?

I agree, daily behavior is what really shows love, and at the same time receiving little gift this or better anyother day feels good
Oh, yes, that's true. This day is crazy here, and any little thing is going to be expensive because as lupega says many people take the moment to make some money, for sure there are people who believe the more expensive the gift is, the greater the feeling, many are just pretending they love, and many are just taking advantage
