RE: My Neighbor Adolf (2022)
To be honest, I understand very well why people followed Adolf Hitler and his ideas. Unlike other politicians, he not only made promises but also delivered on some of them, and at that time the country was in a major crisis. No work, poverty, you name it. It's not much different from what's happening in many countries today. In that respect, history certainly repeats itself. And when there's no way out, everyone is happy to have a saviour, someone who keeps his word. Incidentally, I've read his book and think it's well written.
I believe that all countries have a past, whether it be slavery, plundering, the tedium of hatred, the abuse of others; no people can escape it. I recently read about what the Danes did to the Inuit, the inhabitants of Greenland, including inserting coils into young girls so that the population would not increase. Many girls and young women suffered unbearable pain and bleeding and did not know what was causing it. This was and is the case in many countries: always castrating, sterilising, raping, mistreating, abusing, murdering the minority... And covering it up.
What I cannot understand is why people want a savior if history has shown us that caudillos (strongmen) only look after their own interests.
