The introduction post where I was told was unnecessary. But there's a point to it because the moderator didn't even do much about it. Only you and Xiao that were actively interacting on them. At least it's a good encouragement from your side.

There was a period when they were very strict with newcomers, and thegorilla did a lot of work to combat scammers, all invited, who were draining the platform.

Unless an army of Steem witches returns to fight scam, spam, AI generated posts and comments, without running the risk of being downvoted or threatened in real life, the only option is for us to look after ourselves and one another and not stifle creativity, because if you ask me, this is the only thing that can put this platform on the map: genuine talent, connections, feeling welcome.
You won’t manage that if you look like a criminal holding a piece of paper and balancing a teacup on your left toe... Besides of the fact one has the right to stay anonymous and safe.
Some very life dangering events happened after some Steemit Days.
Yes, it was the newcomer community. If I remember it correctly, there were a few steps to verify ourselves. To be honest, I felt a bit angry having to do it and reveal myself for nothing. If not for you telling me that we don't have to do it anymore, I would be foolishly do the rest of the steps and waited until the cow comes home.
I agree with you that one has the right to stay anonymous for safety or as personal preference.
They tried me to do it too and I refused. After all my account was old plus signed up to be anonymous.
I know others at first did and next removed their photo.
To me a photo isn't any proof, it can be a sister or neighbour or whomsoever.
As they tried to get as many new Steemians as possible also gangs arrived. Entire villages, corrupt and threatening to kill the wife, daughters (little children) you name.
The last Steemit day in Aceh was also a huge disaster, fooling the Steemit Team included.
The same counts for Nigeria and other countries.
It all runs into one family clan where one rules and has all tasks on Steemitband divides them under the workers (who do not get paid).
Many can hardly read.
There's also a lot of envy /, corruption and threats against the moderators if they refuse to give upvotes and to scam the Steemit Team. The result is the good ones left because of all the stress and their families be put in danger.
Not very social if it comes to a platform being called social media. This is downside of people only joining because of false promises telling them they will be rich overnight.
Those are really villains; It's difficult sympathize even if they had to do it because of poverty when they threatened others like this. At first, when you mentioned the situation, I was still thinking it was just an argument between this site and another site that got really bad. I really underestimated how terrible people can be. They turned this place into such a hellish place. Now I know why there is such extreme verification around. Sadly, like you said, it can be a picture of anyone.
There are times when you’d be better off keeping quiet, or when I’ll do it instead. If I don’t like it here, I’ll just do my own thing. By now, I feel as though I’m back where I was two years ago: people acting like they’re better than everyone else and thinking they know everything better than anyone else. Creativity is hard to come by, as are flexibility and a genuine willingness to help one another. So-called ‘help’ from curators is really just about lining their own pockets, not about actually giving anyone useful tips on how to gain visibility – after all, imagine if you were to be upstaged. That’s something that’s very much at play here. And the fact that they focus more on women, for that matter…
Once you’re aware of it, you can of course let it get to you, but I’m using the mute button more and more often. I’ve just had a quick look round Steem for Betterlife, which, after Dream Steem, seems to be turning into Steemit’s dustbin.
A community where pretty much everyone used to start out, I hope every moderator does. Now it’s a rudderless mess and nobody reads each other’s posts or gives each other a helping hand – I find that so sad. I’ve gone and written another old-fashioned moderator’s report, posted it in the forum along with a link – and I can only hope people read it and take advantage of it. This, of course, applies to the flexible sort who want to achieve something, not to the rigid types who think they know it all and fail to realise that if they all go down, we’ll all go down with them. The domino effect is in full swing…
