For sure not everyone will die within one day I mean if you already have zero degrees minus 1 minus 2 minus 10 is not that far away and I'm sure you find a way to stay warm even if it's sitting close to another. The good thing about snow is that it isolates.
You have no see how about a river? A river or lake are great for swimming as well.
Sometimes people die here in winter because the use of carbon to climatize their home, and we rarely have less than zero. But I saw a documentary about people living in Siberia (-70 Celsius degree) so I guess you can stay alive if you are smart and do the work.
