Season greetings to you lovely people. Now that the Christmas celebration and the New Year festivities are winding down, it's about time to focus on the coming days.

Honestly, Steemit is still a bit complex for me because I'm still a newbie, but I'll keep trying my best to learn as much as possible.

Writing could be hard work sometimes but as long as it's an enjoyable hobby, then it's okay.
So I completed my Achievement 4 task, yay!!!! While trying to figure out what next to write about, I decided to do a diary game as recommended by @beautybb

Anyway, I temporarily visited Port Harcourt again after the New year activities. On getting to my area in Etchié, I noticed that people were gradually returning from their travels.

Shopping

On getting to my apartment, I quickly realized that I needed a few groceries, particularly edible kinds of stuff so I wouldn't starve.

I went to a nearby supermarket and picked a few food items. Well, the price of foodstuffs in Nigeria is skyrocketing and there's nothing anybody can do about it. (That's a story for another day.)

When I was done shopping, I gathered up my items and then.... "boom!" "Boom!!" Two loud gunshots splittered the quiet environment.

Port Harcourt generally is considered a rough area, so everyone is always cautious and alert.
Typically, when there's a gunshot, people dive for cover. But not here. In Port Harcourt, people run towards the gunshots.

When I recovered from the shock (about five minutes later), I was told that there was an attempted armed robbery on a Point of Sale (POS) kiosk a stone throw away.

Armed robbers

On reaching outside the supermarket I was holed in, a mammoth crowd began running towards my direction brandishing melee weapons, and chasing after a speeding motorcycle.

A few minutes later, the crowd returned, and this time, they had two naked young men in front of them.

Apparently, the would-be armed robbers have been caught. They had tried stealing N500,000 from the kiosk.

The most baffling thing about this episode is that the would-be armed robbers were looking quite healthy without any deformities or disabilities.

Materialism and the quest for quick riches are driving most African youths towards crime. This insidious trend is alarming and gradually on the rise.

Jungle justice

In no time, the two young suspects were beaten blue-black with one even fainting multiple times. This treatment meted on them is known as *"Jungle Justice".*

Jungle justice is very prevalent in Nigeria, whereby crime suspects are not immediately handed over to the police but manhandled, disgraced, and beaten to the point of death.

Although, their crimes may be bad itself, but personally, I am of the opinion that jungle justice is also a terrible way to handle people suspected of criminal acts.

The main cause of jungle justice is simply having a weak institutions in Nigeria, and Africa in general.

The police most time do not even care about this crime, and many times, they stand back and observing jungle justice taking place.

Is jungle justice a good way to treat criminals caught in the act? If not, lets hear your view in the comment section.

Yes the urge for quick money has landed a lot of people into serious problems.

Good for them , because they are looking for fastmoney without stress ..

Wow thank God you are safe and concerning the jungle Justice it is the only way to scare away all those thief in our community other wise the rate of theft in our community would have been too much to handle since the police are not helping

Yes the police are really not helping matters. Truthfully, the government needs to up its game in strengthening our security institutions.

In any case, im against jungle justice though.
