How I Was Scammed | Contest.

One day I was at my place of work and a man walked in hawking toothpaste. It was no ordinary toothpaste because it was used in a game which you had to participate in to get money. Therefore it was more of gambling. The toothpaste was however very ordinary, I think it was labeled Aloe Vera toothpaste. This toothpaste was of low value because it is rarely used by people. Each tooth paste pack had a number and each number represented an item you would win. Since this toothpaste was of low value, the trick was that it was sold at a high price though you win a gift according to the numbers chosen labeled on the toothpaste.

He told me all this information and funnily this same thing had happened to me at University and my friends and I had participated but we won gifts we did not like as we realized they were very cheap compared to the price we had paid for the toothpaste. I got a coil for boiling water which did not last. This time round after the man explaining the product I was ready to chase him away, however I decided to listen, and how I got sucked into the game is what I can’t explain. He told me to pay shs.50,000 which is about US$16 for the toothpaste and among the prizes were money of different amounts which were all higher than the price of the toothpaste. Someone would have told me that, that was the first red flag but I went ahead.

I was sure basing on what he had told me that I would win money. After payment of the price I was given the toothpaste which I opened to see the number I had chosen. I had won a solar torch which I am sure it’s price was was less than quarter the amount I had paid. I was so disgusted and angry at the whole process because I had willingly participated in purchasing a product that I knew was not worth the amount I was paying and the prize I had anticipated had not come rather I had gotten a gift that was not even worth it. I was angry in that I first threw the item in the trash. Then I remembered that someone could really use it and picked it and saved it.

There was an office opposite me where the members were listening to the whole debacle and after it had happened I listened in and they were saying such people are conmen and they play mind games to earn money as that particular brand is the one used because it is so cheap. They lure you with bigger gifts of money and then you purchase the toothpaste at a ridiculous price and win very cheap gifts and they will have made a profit. It is very difficult to claim that you lost the money because you willingly participated in the purchase and the game. It is at the end of the game that you realize how foolish your actions.

This is my story of how I got scammed and it was funny given I gave him the last money I had. I later told a friend about the incident and it was so funny how I was blind to the red flags that were right in front of me in that we just burst out and laughed at my actions.
