What happened: A Colorful Day at the Fair
I visited the Rash Mela at Kantaji Temple, Dinajpur a few days back. It makes my heart happy even now when I think of that day. It happens every year and I have visited it since I was a kid. My husband, two nieces Nuha and Nawrin and I had got ready to go to the fair, around noon that day. As soon as we got started with getting ready, I felt an excitement. The fair on both sides of the road, people on the street, and the bright stalls, it felt like I'm walking through the scene of a movie.
Busy Street at Rash Mela |

When we arrived at the temple I saw a whole new world. The streets were clogged with people, stalls selling sweets and different kinds of food, clay toys, bangles and jewelry. It was all so lively and colorful.
Jalebi Shop |
---|
Walking through the fair, I saw a little shop in the corner. There were jalebis frying in hot oil . I was completely fascinated so I stopped there. The sweet smell filled the air and the loops of jalebi had turned golden.
One man was piping a batter into the oil at the jalebi shop, another was dipping them into jaggery syrup, and another person was selling to customers. The jalebis were being made so fast and being sold off Quickly.
Hot Jalebi |

I stood there for a bit watching in awe. I couldn’t take it anymore finally. I bought a plate of the hot jalebis and on my first bite, I was just happy. The simple goodness of childhood, where the warm, syrupy jalebi led my tongue blissfully melting it away. I was lost in the taste for a moment, like the noise around me disappeared.
Another little girl standing close by also looked at me with curious eyes suddenly. “Is the jalebi tasty sister?” she asked. I smiled when she asked so innocently, ‘Yes very tasty’, I replied. I gave her a jalebi,. It was the happiest moment of my day, the happiness on her face.
What I Learned:
I learnt something personal in this experience. A true happiness is in small and simple moments. We forget to enjoy these little joys in our busy lives. It feels even more meaningful if you share happiness with others. That little girl’s smile told me that that spreading joy is one of the greatest things we can do.

I try to find these small moments of happiness now every day because that’s the beauty of life.
