| Tell your story #24(Dont judge people from afar)
Hello friends welcome to my blog.
Today, I will be telling a story from my experience. When I came to my present state of residence newly, I started attending a new church. Everything about this new church was new to me. I had to start learning their way of worship, and it made me always observe every little they do. I have always been an active person in church activity, but here I withdrew myself from getting involved because I don't understand them yet.
All I did during this period of my observation was go home once service was over because that is how we did in my former church; no time for stopping to felicitate with brethren or start a long discussion. However, at some point, some people approached me to join a group in the church, which I promised them I would but did not because I was not ready.
After a long stay in the church, when I became conversant with them, I mean the church, I decided to join a group in a church in which I was active, held a post and contributed to the group's growth with my service. Wherever I find myself, especially in a new environment, I sit back to observe and learn how things work before I act.
Recently, while I was talking with two ladies that we belong the same group of young ladies in the church, although it was a random discussion they said they never knew I was this friendly, jovial and interesting person that when I came to the church newly that I was forming big for them and I do not talk to anyone I was shocked with how they saw me. However, I explained to them that I don't adapt easily when I come to a new environment. I have to study the people there and know how things work and adjust to them.
Sometimes, we judge people from afar without knowing the reasons behind their actions; we should come close to understanding them better. They could be the sweetest people you ever meet. Some people go as far as speaking ill about you to others when they judge you from afar.
I have learnt not to judge people. I had once judged a coursemate back then in school with what I heard about her, but one day, I was opportune to meet her outside school, and we got talking only to realise I have a different notion of her.
Allow people to be themselves when they are ready they will be that which you want them to be if it is good for them. Because you never can tell if they are taking their time, just like me, to understand how things work or study a person so you don't hurt people or make a mistake. Also never believe everything you heard about someone you have never had an encounter with.

Really appreciate you sharing this heartwarming story. How you spend time observing and understanding the new church environment before diving in is highly relative. It's a great reminder that first impressions can be misleading, and that sometimes, people need space to adjust to new surroundings.
