Hello steemians

Good day to you all. How are you all doing? I'm very glad to participate in this week contest and I'll be talking about "STORM". This is a very disastrous thing that can cause harm to our environment. Please do read along.

Definition of a Storm

A Storm is any disturbed state of the atmosphere, especially as affecting the earth's surface, and strongly implying destructive or unpleasant weather.

Storm is a generic term, popularly used to describe a large variety of atmospheric disturbances, ranging from ordinary rain showers and snowstorms to thunderstorms, wind and wind-related disturbances, such as gales, tornadoes, tropical cyclones, and sandstorms.. Thunderstorms, tornadoes, and hurricanes are powerful and sometimes known as dangerous types of storms.

Examples of storms include 👇
Thunderstorms, hail, blizzards, ice storms, high winds and heavy rain can develop quickly and threaten life and property.

Types of Storms

There are different types of storms, but they all have something in common: how they are formed and the destructive power they carry.Storms get all sorts of names. There are thunderstorms, tropical cyclones, tornadoes, and more.

Weather forecasters use terms like snowstorms, hailstorms, blizzards, low-pressure systems, hurricanes, derechos, and twisters.

Causes of a Storm

There are three basic things involved for a thunderstorm to form which are moisture, rising unstable air (air that keeps rising when given a nudge), and a lifting mechanism to provide the “nudge.”

Thunderstorms include thick clouds, heavy rain or hail, lightning, thunder, and strong winds. Thunderstorms happen when hot, moist air rises quickly to cooler parts of the atmosphere. There the air cools, and clouds and rain form. Lightning, which is a form of electricity, develops inside the clouds.

Effects of a Storm

Storms can cause alot of harm, damage and havoc to lives and properties. Here are the few effects of storms.

  • Heavy rain or snow causing flooding or road impassibility, lightning and wildfires.
  • Loss of lives and properties.Lives are endangered as there could be air pollution, causing the air to be unsafe. And there would be debris being blown around, causing land pollution as well.
  • Drowning can occur as there would be heavy rainfall, causing the whole place to be flooded.
  • Buildings are destroyed or damaged as there would be loss of most of the roof structure and also some exterior walls. Some buildings might end up collapsing due to the thunderstorm and heavy wind.
  • Electric supplies are disrupted due to power lines being destroyed. There would be low power supply or none at all.
  • Sewage is released due to flooding.
  • Water supplies become contaminated.
  • Most trees will be snapped or uprooted and power poles downed.
  • Disruption of transport and communication.

Every thunderstorm produces lightning, which kills more people each year than tornadoes. Heavy rain from thunderstorms can lead to flash flooding. Strong winds, hail, and tornadoes are also dangers associated with some thunderstorms.

Water storm

Tropical storms are warm-based systems that derive their energy from warm ocean water and warm, moist air.

Hurricanes and typhoons are the same weather phenomenon: tropical cyclones. A tropical cyclone is a generic term to describe a rotating, organized system of clouds and thunderstorms that originates over tropical or subtropical waters and has closed, low-level circulation.
A storm don't happens underwater that means there cannot be any storm inside the sea.

However what does happen is that the disturbance to the smooth flow in Ocean currents is not limited to the surface only, and waters to some depth also get into rolling or back and forth motion.

Storm surge is water from the ocean that is pushed toward the shore by the force of the winds swirling around the hurricane.A heavy wind brings a storm.

Thank you for reading. I invite @ninapenda, @mesola and @eliany to participate in this contest.
