• Paradise

 
Since I remember myself I was living in a beautiful country side and I love it, waking up early morning and get out to fresh air at door step. My parents usually away working on field since the first sun rays but for me and my siblings it is normal, we just get up and find a little of food on table in kitchen, usually it is bread, a bit of butter and milk, that is the most delicious breakfast in the whole world, because bread is done by my mother and milk and butter is from our cow, we have only one cow and she is like our family member, we all look good after her so that she live long and is providing us with food.

I have never felt myself as a poor person, I had a lot of love from my family and siblings, we had enough food and luckily due to weather is tropic area we did not need warm clothes and often run bare feet.

With the time when I started growing up I see the difference between me and my family and children from other families or even later about life in Western world with all the privilege. I was not angry but I was sorry for my family working so hard and honest but still not able to benefit from it. People say poor remain poor and rich become even richer and now I started understand that too.

I was thinking a lot about how to help out my family and started looking for jobs and going through advertisement. Unfortunately, many needed special skills and experience and I was only 18 years old and could only work hard but I now was not sure if this is the way forward seeing the example of my parents.

While skipping through many similar advertisements I noticed one that was interesting: there was a pharmacological company that was testing a drug for treatment of cancer. They were looking for healthy test persons to test the side-effects of drugs. For that they offered accommodation on the territory of company, food and also for the period of test 6 months lump sum of 50K $USD
When I saw that I was very excited and told my family, my mother was very concerned and did not want me to go, my father said that it is likely fraud and also did not want me to go.

Initially I listened and leave it to side but every day I was coming back to this idea, only 6 months and so much money that could help my family and I would be back in 6 months.

One day I did not tell a word to my family but left a little message where I explained why I am taking this step and went.

When I arrive the company was astonishing, everything was clean and modern, a lot of screens and equipments. The guide who met us, we were 10 people friendly, explained that we are going to our rooms and only what we need to do is live as usually, we will be given a medication once a day and writing a daily diary about our day. It was a simple task and I was happy to do that.

Day gone by day and after being a months here I did not have much trouble, only felt a bit tired although did not really do any work. Slowly, I think it was maybe just food I did not enjoy food so much, I missed home made food and slowly without even noticing ate less and less, but also noticeably I passed less urine, I did not pay attention to it and did not document.

Once a week we had blood checked and today it was another week passed and it was time for bloods. I was tired and felt a bit nauseous, I thought for me that it was due to lack of food. Later on the day of blood test I was called to lab again and this time people there were a bit concerned. They asked me if I felt tired and passing less urine I said: yes. I had an ultrasound and later on some more special scans. Two days later I was asked to come to other office and there were few people there. One introduced himself as a leading doctor and started a chat, somehow I had a feeling that something was wrong. He told me that the experiment drug damaged my both kidneys and because I did not tell anyone and did not document my symptoms it was too late, the damage was irreversible.

He also said that I will not be able to continue the program because they can not use me as a test person due to health issues and as it was only 2 months and not 6 as it was I n contract, they will not pay me, he also referred to the end of contract where it was written.

 

• Tomorrow
   

I was shocked, but not for me I was shocked to tell that to my parents, I was just 18 and I was dying without money without anything. I had no strength and only what I want is to go back home to my beautiful place and my parent. I was scared but I need to go, I do not know what expecting me and I was too tired to think about now, I want to sleep and think about that tomorrow...
