Choices! What will it be? #58

in Steem For Ladies17 days ago

We have been waiting for it for weeks and they kept playing us around. Probably nothing they said.
We had been typing our screens for long that our nails almost got hurt and our fingers peels.
But when the economy of your country is bad, the unemployment rate is high and inflation is on the rise; the least you can do is participate in projects that will help your life.

Choices: Barbecue

One of such projects was the $NOT project by the notcoin team. It was a simple game of tapping the notcoin icon on your screen in your telegram app and earning points.
The more you tapped and the more boosters you used the higher points you had.

@vudeme123 introduced me into this project as she is also the one that introduced me to steemit. Call her my destiny helper if you wish and you'd be right maybe.

Yesterday the coin launched and I was able to cash out some penny. I was so excited as I was able to pay the balance for my phone. I was also able to start another installment for a washing machine for my lovely Mom. She is advancing in age and she only has boys and no one to help her at home. It breaks my heart to see her come back home and have to wash with her hands. I love my Mom so much and almost all my hustle is to make her grow old happily.
Hopefully I will balance up and get her this machine.

But that aside, it is good to celebrate small wins and the best way to celebrate mine was to go and get some steaks at a barbecue stand. These barbecue stands are mostly operated by northerners who we call Aboki and the meat they sell is called suya.
Unlike the normal barbecue stand we see on TV and in movies, the one used here by these people are locally made and serves them the purpose.

I waited till 7pm before heading out to buy this treat. Going earlier than that would be futile as they come to sell at night.
I got to the location and I was the second customer to be attended to. I could see the fire burning from the wood and this was surprising because elsewhere they use minimum fire to slowly roast the meat.

The meat is nearly arranged on sticks then when you make your choice the Aboki picks it and sets it on the fire for you. After something he brings it out.

He will put the roasted meat on an old newspaper and cut them into smaller pieces fit for consumption.

he adds onions and cabbage to it so that it can be both tasty and crunchy.

Before he then proceeds to add some small slices of onions and cabbage. When he is done he then folds them nicely and puts a toothpick which serves to hold the paper together and to pick your teeths after eating the meat.

Eating this suya goes back a long time. It was not something I eat occasionally. It was like a once in a blue moon affair.
We could be in a car going back home and dad would just stop by a and buy some and my stepmother will share it(I always felt she was cheating me😁). Sometimes we would pass by the road where these Aboki's stand and I'd cross my heart hoping dad would stop and he would not and I will just be disappointed 😞.

Enough of the nostalgia, I got my order and went home to enjoy. I refused to buy any drink to go with it because these days there are a lot of adulteration going on in the beverage market where traders open their own faculty and produce imitated drinks that looks like the original. You drink this and you just damage your health the more. So I would go for water any day until I can afford quality drinks.

I arrived my room and entered, got on my bed and brought out the packaged meat. I opened and took a piece of meat into my mouth as I waited to savour the taste and flavour.

But I was met with something I didn't expect. What kind of suya is this! I exclaimed.
It was very bad, a part of it was burnt and the meat was tasty at all. It was like something I've never had, could it be old meat or what? I was so disappointed and angry.
At the end of the day I gave it to my neighbour to eat it and I promise never to patronise that particular Aboki again. I just wasted 4 steem for nothing. Arhhh

I could have worked some distance more to get something better. I've learnt my lessons.

I invite @goodybest, @stef1 and @mile16 to participate in this contest on choices.

Oh no!
I could taste the barbecue in my mouth! I was just waiting to read how nice it was, as South Africa LOVES a "braai," as we call it.
If I were disappointed, I can just imagine how you must have felt.

Good luck with the contest!
