SLC S22 Week 1 - Herbs for children
For teething remedy for children, I used Tumeric and garlic as herbs to make this remedy.
Quantity
I cm root of Tumeric
A piece of garlic
150ml of water
I cut and mashed the garlic and Tumeric alittle and added the water and allowed to boil for about 10 minutes to allow the herbs to be properly infused into the water. Sieve and allow to cool.
Usage/how to administer
To administer, dip a Cotton bud or Cotten wool in the herbal mixture and rub on the gum for relieve.
Benefits of Tumeric and garlic for teething pain relief
- Garlic has anti inflammatory and anti oxidating properties hence helps to reduce the gum inflammation, swelling and teeth pain.
- One of the compounds contained in garlic is allicin which is anti microbial and anti bacterial hence it helps to fight bacteria responsible for tooth aches.
- Tumeric also has anti inflammatory properties hence helps to provide relieve for teething pains.
Note: Babies can be very sensitive to Tumeric because it’s strong hence you should consult your physician before usage at home for infants.
Three safe herbs for children includes;
- Marsh mallow
- Garlic
- Ginger
Health benefits of Garlic for children
It’s effective in protecting children against cold, flu and some illnesses as it boosts their immune system and prevents viruses from evading and reproducing in their cells.
Garlic is a very nutritious herb that is rich in victim C, other vitamins like B6 with other numerous trace nutrients and manganese.
Its active compounds such as acillin and ajoene is good for heart heath as it lowers the pressure of the blood and the body cholesterol level.
The antioxidants contained in garlic is useful fighting oxidation process in the body hence improving cognitive function in children and reduces stress.
Marsh Mallow
Marsh mallow is a great herb and it’s safe for children and used in resting conditions as skin conditions, respiratory problems and also digestive issues. It can be taken inform of teas and tinctures.
Some it’s health benefits includes;
- it’s helps in treatment of colds and coughs due to its high mucilaginous contents. It’s acts as enzymes that helps to inhibit bacteria and loosen mucous and also used in the treatment of dry cough.
- Marsh mallow roots has anti inflammatory properties hence it’s very essential in relieving skin irritation conditions such as eczema.
- Its anti properties aids in fast healing of wounds and makes for general skin health.
- It’s has pain relieving properties, it’s analgesic and can also be used as a diuretic as it helps to flush excess fluid in the body and cleanses the badder and kidneys.
Health benefits of ginger for children
Ginger contains gingerol as its main compound and ginger is an antioxidant and had anti inflammatory properties that helps in reducing stress cause by oxidation of too many free radical in our body.
Ginger is beneficial in fighting cold and flu, it helps in the reduction of nausea and helps childrens digestion.
Ginger helps in dealing with digestive issues such as bloating, belching and improves indigestion symptoms and pain in the abdomen. Ginger helps to lower the level of cholesterol
and Ginger is useful in fighting fungal and bacteria infections due to its anti microbial properties.
For the bed wetting herbal remedy, Inised cinnamon and ginger.
Quantity
- Half teaspoon of powdered cinnamon
- Small root of ginger
- 150 ml of water
Procedure
Cut the ginger into tiny pieces and add cinnamon and the ginger to a pot and pour in water. Allow to boil for about ten minutes and allow to cool.
Administration
1 teaspoon twice a day for children above 6 months
1 table spoon for older children from 2 years above twice a day
You can add honey but not for children under one year old.
Benefits of cinnamon and ginger for treating bed wetting
- Cinnamon helps to keep the body warm and it’s anti inflammatory properties deals with the bacterial infection in bed wetting patients.
- Ginger in Chinese culture is said to be help helpful in treating bed wetting through Ginger cupping therapy and partitioned moxibustion having about 84.1% success rate. Source
Observation
I do not have a child yet, from my research, using these has been proven to be effective in dealing with bed wetting in children along side other helpful tips available.
