What is cholesterol level and what are it's types? |

Cholesterol is a type of fatty substance in the blood. It is beneficial for us but if this cholesterol becomes more than the amount then it is called high cholesterol which is harmful to us.
Cholesterol is generally of 2 types. One is LDL cholesterol and the other is HDL cholesterol.
Cholesterol does not normally move alone. It travels in the blood with the help of lipoproteins. When LDL cholesterol travels through blood vessels or arteries, it sticks to the blood vessels, slowly narrowing the arteries and blocking blood flow. After this happens, a person has a stroke. LDL cholesterol should be below 100mg/dl.
HDL cholesterol is a good part of us. It carries LDL cholesterol to the liver. Which prevents the accumulation of LDL cholesterol in the blood vessels. After being brought to the liver, LDL cholesterol is broken down. A normal HDL cholesterol level should be above 50mg/dl.
Also, total cholesterol levels should be less than 200 mg/dl.
What kind of investigations are used to measure level of cholesterol? |

It usually takes 1-2 days to measure cholesterol levels seen in our hospital. During the test, a technician draws blood from a vein in the arm with our sterile needle, sends it to the laboratory, and analyzes the sample in the laboratory. But it has no side effects. Mild pain will be felt in the needle. After that, our report arrived within 1-2 days. This report usually contains 3 pieces of information.
- Total cholesterol levels
- LDL cholesterol levels
- HDL cholesterol levels.
But in our pharmacy, cholesterol levels can be measured within 5 minutes and results are given immediately. It gives results within 5 minutes of total cholesterol level.
A drop of blood is taken from the fingertip with a sterile needle and the total cholesterol level is tested immediately.
Why HDL is good cholesterol? |

HDL cholesterol is a beneficial cholesterol for our body. If there is LDL cholesterol in the blood while moving through lipoproteins, then the LDL cholesterol goes with it to the liver, and the liver then destroys the LDL cholesterol.
It does not allow LDL cholesterol to build up in the arteries or veins. It prevents heart block by stroke.
Moreover, by testing HDL cholesterol, we can predict our heart and stroke.
Therefore HDL cholesterol is considered as our good cholesterol.

That is why we should eat everything on limits not excess and engage more in exercising and drinking plenty of water for digestion.
@prudence21 Yes my friend you are right. To avoid cholesterol we need to drink enough water. Also we need to eat healthy food and we need to exercise daily
