What is stress eating?

 

Stress eating is something that some people may have and developed already in early years, often n childhood. We all know that children while growing up have many new things to learn, they need to start exploring the environment and also to start their experience. One of the stress situation is when children start their life in communities, like in nursery, it is when kids learn others. There are some kids who have no problem and just from beginning on just go ahead and start playing with others. There are other children who are shy and not communicable and while they feel that they have to speak up and take part in any activities they feel very hungry and food make their stress better. Often it is some sweet stuff. Later on we have more stress, school, exam, friends and girl or boyfriends and relationship. If a person has this habit till this time then it is almost not possible to get rid of it.

 

Negative effects of stress eating?

 

The negative sides of stress eating:

  • more we eat the more we gain weight, that could end up in obesity

  • often in obesity people we develop diabetes, that could cause worsening of kidney function, deterioration your eyesight, neuropathy with reduced sensitivity of legs, hands.

  • the more stress eating people move less and after gaining weight may develop problem with joints

In my case I have completely different reaction to stress, instead of eating I loose my appetite and stop eating, I just do not enjoy any food. It is strange that one psychological condition like stress could cause a huge wish to eat as much as possible to calm down but for the others they are not able to eat anything. I had a friend of mine who had such stress related eating, for example when we were having our exam time she always had some snacks in her bag. During our writing tests she had some chocolate bars that she always left on her table and our teachers knew about that, therefore, they had no problem with that. In the case of my schoolmate she was not overweight because without stress she was fine and she was not eating too excessive.

I think it is hard when you have such situation when you have to calm your nerves with eating, but on other hand at least it is not so bad like the medications and that a person is not addicted to drugs.
