"Steemit Philippines Photography Contest Week 3 : FILIPINO CULTURE "PAGMAMANO"
Hello Stemit and @steemitphilippines!!! I hope all of you are safe and in good health always. My entry for this weeks Photography Contest for Filipino Culture is PAGMAMANO.
“ PAGMAMANO ”
Pagmamano is a Filipino Culture an honoring gesture that shows respect for elders and is also a way of asking and accepting the blessings from the elders. A very valuable culture of the Filipino that should be not be forgotten and should be taught to children at a young age especially at todays modern world. We commonly use the term “Bless Lola, Bless Lolo, to Titas, and Ninang or Ninongs” and to others. This is done by taking the hands of the elder and touching the back of the hand lightly on the young one's forehead.
Example : When we say “Mano po Lola” our Lola will utterly also reply “God Bless you apo”.
I have thought this Filipino Culture of Pagmamano to my son, to show his respect for his elder a relative or not. We taught him to do this honoring gesture even to us his parents. Explained to him the importance of respect and valuing the culture as a kid.
Before, when I was a kid my parents taught me the“Pagmamano”. I and my siblings will do this at 6 in the evening to our parents and elderly living in our house every day. And also do the gesture to any elders who we visited. With this teaching I also have done it to my son. Likewise, told him also to do the same to his future family and for the generations to come.
Pagmamano, even if it is already taught many years ago, still lives among Filipino families all over the world regardless of family status.
I hope that this Filipino honoring culture of Pagmamano will not fade away for the generations to come especially to this changing modern world. May it not be replace with cheek to cheek greetings only to elders. It is our responsibility as parents, or elders to teach the children to carry on this culture of respecting the elders and ask for their blessings.
