My son Math Fabio, best in Math Awardee

The modernity of this world leads to the quest for modernity in our youth as well. Let's accept the fact that in today's high-tech era, our kids' favorite pastime is their gadgets. In my case as a father of two boys, I always remind them that they should prioritize their school work first before spending time with their gadgets. I am overwhelmed that they followed what we agreed even though we are distant from each other and we only talked through video calls.

I was glad last school year, they received various school awards. My eldest son Mori was awarded "with honors", while my youngest son Math Fabio was the first honor in their class and got 7 medals.

Just recently, my youngest son was also awarded as best in Math during his summer class. And yes, his name is "Math Fabio." It was my wife who gave him that name because she is a Mathematics teacher. We didn't expect that Math becomes his favorite subject too. Yet, while we are glad he has no problem with Math, he has this problem with Filipino subject which sadden us because it is our very own National language (maybe because of too much exposure to English like that from youtube ). Anyway, it seems that his problem is also a common problem of the new generation of his age. In fact, not only those young kids encountered this, but adults too. Mostly those from the Visayas region of the Philippines find it hard to smoothly speak the Language which is Tagalog and are more comfortable using the English Language instead. Of course, many might not agree with me, anyway let's get back to my son's award.

During that day my wife was not informed that my son Math will receive an award. Most of the time, only his " ate" will accompany him to school and waits for him until his classes end. At that time, since he had no parents around, it was the father of his teacher who assisted him and stood as his parent. I felt sorry for my son and as I looked at his photo I said to myself, "how I wish I was the one who is next to him."
My son seems sad during the awarding but as soon as I knew about it, I congratulated him right away and comforted him. I told him that I am very sorry, and worry not about if there will be the next time, I will surely be there next to him (hoping that I will be in the Philippines during that day).

As he arrives home Math is still silent while having his trophy and medals. Even though he is not in the mood, he still looks cute. It's really hard being away from your family. There are lots of important occasions that you'll miss. I hope he will understand when he grows up that I did all of this for him. As a father, it hurts me more that I am not by their side during such an important event in their life.
